Flin Brett
Flin Brett was a Gnome woman from the city of Morhan in the Kingdom of Wolfsbrunn. Flin was not a particular brave person by nature but would not hesitate to act in her and her friends' favor when the need arised as she had a strong sense of camaraderie. She was part of the group of heroes known as Semper Solari and she was an important factor in the defeat of the The Red Queen and The Blood in 6738 AV.
Flin's family owned a bookstore called "The Nest," with a small alchemy lab in the basement where her uncle Theo occasionally showed her a thing or two. Flin shared a strong bond with Theo and got along well with him. Alchemy piqued her interest, but Theo only provided her with basic practical knowledge, leaving her unable to navigate the theoretical aspects. It was her uncle who instructed her in the art of breaching doors, walls and safes by employing powerful explosives, but her failed and over the top experiments with explosives left her with the nickname 'Boomy'
Around the age of 15, Flin and her brothers were informed about the family's true source of income. The bookstore served as a mere cover for their actual revenue stream: organized crime and gathering intelligence for the Gray Cartel. The family's income primarily came from gathering information as well as targeted heists of valuable items, which were discreetly and (usually peacefully) taken. As by the rules of the cartel, the family stole only from those who could afford it, and prided themselves for not using violence and their precision. Flin was taught the tools and tricks of the trade and quickly became quite adept in the art of thievery.
Life was well for a substantial period of time. However, when Flin turned 34, The Nest was raided by the Department of Preservation and Security. Almost the entire family was apprehended and arrested, and sent to work in the mines of Edastein. The few that got away, or were not within the Nest at the time the raid happened, fled across the entirety of Wolfsbrunn. Later, she would find out that her uncle Theo Brett ended up in Rornach, and that her brother Fred and the matriach of the family Lydia were still in Morhan. Flinn herself ending up in Wadfeld, where she first met Erin Nelwin and Mallum Vatis.
The group managed to break free and escape the cave, but were not able not catch their captor at that point in time. Flin and the others decided that they would find that person, and bring them to justice, which is how Semper Solari was founded. This eventually led the group to discover a threat that was far greater than what they could have imagined concerning the cult of The Blood and their efforts to bring back the The Red Queen from her banishment.
During her time in Semper Solari, Flin proved herself to be a valuable asset when it came to stealth and secrecy. In the early days she would mostly keep her secrets to herself, but her particular set of knowledge and skills became clear and quite invaluable in the cities of the kingdom, where she would often navigate the tunnels beneath the city or find hidden passages in places where others could not. Flin could stand her ground in a fight, and would mostly employ her bow in combat. However, on occassion, she would use daggers when enemies came too close to teach them a lesson not to mess with a gnome from the Brett family. Even though she was very skilled on the battlefield, her encounters with dragons and wyverns left her with a bit of a trauma. Ever since those events she would often be looking at the skies to make sure she would not be caught off-guard by such a creature.Escaped from the Department of Preservation and Security during the raid on The Nest, and eluded capture with the help of Fred Brett after her return to Morhan.
Won the Archery Contest during the Festival of the Summer Sun in Rornach in 6738 AV.
Risked her own life and limb to survive a fight with a Death Tyrant in the Palace of Justice by using a Blasting Key on it.
Played a pivotal role in working together with the Gray Cartel in Hartloch to free the city from a devil invasion during The Hell of Hartloch and showed exceptional kindness and generosity to the citizens of the city which earned her the The Platinum Heart.
Negotiated a deal with Ilyana Dur'mel to free her family from the Edastein mines and returnt hem home. This lead to her being appointed the future matriarch of the Brett Family.
Defeated Varoda together with Semper Solari in the winter of 6738 AV.
Early Life
Flin's upbringing was more practical, the knowledge and wisdom she had was far from academic or religious which left her somewhat naive especially when it came to the divine or arcane. Flin grew up in the slums of Morhan, playing with her two older twin brothers, Fred and Ted, in the city. When it came to archery, Fred was a natural talent and he taught Flin archery, while Ted leaned more towards intellectual pursuits and finding out what happened around the city. Amid their leisure time, Flin received homeschooling from her parents, aunts, and uncles. This education imparted many practical life lessons and general wisdom, rather than bookish knowledge.Flin's family owned a bookstore called "The Nest," with a small alchemy lab in the basement where her uncle Theo occasionally showed her a thing or two. Semper Solari
After meeting Erin and Mallum, the three traveled south, Erin serving as a protector for the two as he himself went on his quest to find the Gauntlets of the Ascended Protector. On their way to Altenport, they were abducted and confined within a cave, where they were to be subjected to some form of necromantic magic. It was revealed later that these acts were orchestrated by Eldrisa Dur'mel, the twin sister of Ilyana Dur'mel. It was in this cave where Flin first met with the Half-Orc Kavu Bisonhorn and Half-Giant Illikan Thuliaga. Who were also abducted during their travels into Wolfsbrunn from Kordaasi and the Thelian Mountains respectively. The group managed to break free and escape the cave, but were not able not catch their captor at that point in time.
