Asmodeus (/æzmoʊˈdeɪʌs/ æz-mo-DAY-us)
Lord of the Nine Hells (a.k.a. Father of Lies)
The worship of Asmodeus once reviled has become accepted among the populace due to the Iron Republic and its integration of the Devil populations. Though much of what is read here still holds true, many of the more uncouth areas have become refined and reinvisioned
Divine Domains
Lies, Trickery, Exploitation
- The God known as Asmodeus is a shrewd negotiator that enjoys tricking mortals into deals and contracts that ultimately work out in his favor. He has been called the Father of Lies for many reasons, but chief among them is his propensity to manipulate and trick. Rulers and tyrants are drawn to him for his ability to exploit and trick those who he and his devils make deals with.
Sin, Torment
- When a fallen soul dies they are said to be sent to the nine hells to be forever tormented by the devils there. It is believed that before Asmodeus fell he was to torment the souls of the wicked for eternity. Eventually when he fell he began to offer deals to these sinners who would be reborn as lowly devils known only as Lemur. His dominion over the sinners and his role in their torment has given him the role of these domains.
Domination
- Asmodeus is, as stated, a favored patron of tyrants, and despots that wish to hold dominion over others. He sits at the head of the hierarchy of devils in the nine Hells and holds complete dominion over all. The tyrants ask for a small amount of this ability to dominate, and though they are given this wish they pay for it with their souls.
Holy Books & Codes
There are two holy books that the followers of Asmodeus hold cannon.
The Book of The Pit
- This book outlines the nine hells and summarizes the hierarchy of devils. Within are prayers one can recite to each of the Arch devils along with a brief oath to Asmodeus after each. Further in one will also see a full page drawing of Asmodeus which was said to be drawn by a imprisoned cleric of Pelor, who was commissioned by Asmodeus in exchange for his freedom.
The Book of the Pact
- This book once served as an instructional book to summon devils, and enter deals with them before the calamity. However, presently due to the existence of the Iron Republic it is rarely if ever used and instead is a prayer book which those who follow Asmodeus may read from.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
Tenets of Faith
Youth and Innocence Demand Corruption
- All shall be corrupted in time, and thus it is your duty to push it on its way. Those that are young are easy marks, take advantage of it. The early corruption will no doubt teach them a valuable lesson, is this not better than protecting them from the world at large?
Ambition and Greed are Natural
- Altruism, generosity, and humility are among the greatest lies we tell ourselves. We do things to help others because we know they will be indebted to us, we give others our treasure as it will make others hold respect for us, and we act humble to be better liked. The true nature of the soul is one of greed and selfishness, embrace it and seize the power you deserve.
Exploit every weakness
- In the quest to gain power you must be prepared to tread upon others. Take advantage of the weaknesses you find in order to have the advantage. Life and the pursuit of power is an everlasting game, and to hold the advantage is to hold power.
The Contract is absolute
- To lie in words is a part of the game but to lie on paper is unacceptable. Though you set the rules you must play by them as well. Make sure when the time comes the rules work to your advantage, but if they cause you to fail then you failed Asmodeus.
Holidays
The Day of Power
19th of the Month of Ends12/19
-
This is a celebration of the power that was gained by the grace of Asmodeus. It will be spent flaunting this power and making deals to further enhance it. However those that have lost power are to be mocked and belittled. Should they promise their souls to those in power however they may be considered a part of the power growers and be given gifts and boons.
The Festival of Torment
The 7th of the Month of Festivals
8/7
-
A time in which animals and beings are caught and subjected to torture in order to satisfy the bloodlust of Asmodeus. The victims can escape the torture by promising their soul to Asmodeus. A statue of Asmodeus is set in the middle of the festival grounds which has a pile of contracts that one must sign to be considered free of torture.Practiced only by fringe Asmodeus Worshipers these days. The Iron republic has done away with this festival completely.
Divine Goals & Aspirations
The ultimate aim of Asmodeus is one shrouded in mystery. However it can be gleaned that he wishes to corrupt others and claim their souls in order to fill his ranks of devils. This may be to fight back the demons of the abyss or to ultimately overthrow Pelor, but it is ultimately unknown.
