Profile

Not much is known about Umbra prior to him discovering his magic. He is discrete about his past as is, but seemingly does not talk about early childhood at all. He has mentioned that he never knew of his father, and he does not talk about his mother. It’s known that from a young age (around 8 or 9) he was forced to fend for himself, turning to a life of originally petty crime to help provide him with food to eat, a place to sleep, clothes to wear, etc.

Using his shadow magic to help him remain undetected where he needed, Umbra built a name for himself among the local thieves as someone who could get shit done. His gift of being incredibly persuasive (or intimidating where required) got him out of most run ins with the law. This however doesn’t mean he hasn’t had his fair share of scraps with the other thieves, arguing over getting to a take they’d already staked out first, drawing too much heat to an area orrrrrr looking at Umbra the wrong way.

Umbra’s preference has always been to work alone, as he feels he can only trust himself. He will reluctantly work with others but be very cautious to always have his own contingency plans in place for if shit hits the fan. As a result of this, he has never really had a friend and doesn’t fully comprehend why he would want to. Friends are a liability and just another weakness that could be used against him.

Umbra tries to make sure most of his victims are bad people but he struggles with the morality of it because who is he to decide what is actually bad. Others could easily look at his actions and say he’s bad too, and he’s just a guy trying to survive. However, he has an image to maintain so you will still see him acting tough around others with maybe an empty threat thrown in here and there. The first time the group may have witnessed this was in Session 6 when Umbra clasped and started to slowly draw his dagger whilst threatening Jed to stop withholding information, telling him to start being more helpful.

Whilst Umbra’s intimidation tactics have gotten him through a lot of things in life, they are also kinda what lead to him working with the ARA. Umbra has peeled back the curtain a little for the group that he may have made some enemies in his hometown, the port city of Blackhollow, but he has made it extremely (COPIUM) clear that he’s not telling them in the “friends talking about their lives” kinda way, he’s telling them this as a warning that there are some dangerous people after him that they should also be wary of.

Physical Description

Umbra’s most prominent features are his beautifully luscious, dark brown, waving mullet, his striking green eyes and the fact that seemingly anywhere you look at him, you spot a new dagger strapped to his body. He is also quite tattooed, however mostly hidden on his torso, with the only standout tattoo you can spot on him being the magic dagger tattoo on his forearm.
