Monks of Monotony
In the far northern deserts of the Aerth, among the cacti and vultures, is the common item of legend. It is common to everyone. So simple. So routine. It's as common as they come. It is also revered by the Monks of Monotony.
These monks, droning about their mound huts of sand in the lashing heat, have centered their religion on it. As the sun begins to crisp the evening blooms of the desert every morning and convince them that unfolding was the same mistake it was yesterday the monks set about their ritual. Their chant begins:
Every song has one note.
Always Forever.
Every toga has one seam.
Always Forever.
Every Light has one beam.
Always Forever.
We are Monks of Monotony.
Always Forever.
We uphold the true forms.
Always Forever.
These sort of minds delight in simplicity. The simplicity of this object they uphold can't be denied, but many other sorts of minds have puzzled over just what exactly it is for many, many years. It is rumored that not even the monks know anymore.
That, of course, is nonsense. They know. Of course they know! Their order has a scorn of curiosity. It upsets the one track mind or some such. They must know everything to keep from having to be curious about it. Right?
....Either that or they actually don't know anything....
