The Ritual
The Rite of the Shadowcall is a ritualistic ascension where one becomes an Inquisitor of the Embrace.
Unlike the common Inquisitor, the Inquisitor of the Embrace has been trained most of their lives in the arts of Shadowcalling.
Once the Inquisitor has succeeded in all trials, they can take on the Rite of the Shadowcall.
This will imbue them with a transformative magic that will cost dearly.
They will be rendered infertile and no longer be able to extend their lineage.
Physical changes include their skin turning pale as death itself, losing all pigmentation, and their eye color changing to blue with a faint glow.
Mentally, their emotions will be suppressed to the point where fear and empathy are greatly reduced.
With high pain tolerance, the Inquisitors become a force of immense power.
Duties
Loyalty is everything to an Inquisitor. They serve the Cold Embrace diligently, but above all, they have blind faith in House Anarious.
They answer to the Anarious family directly and are known as the Lawbringers of the Cold Embrace.
Their main duty is to ensure everyone throughout the ranks of the Cold Embrace remain loyal to House Anarious.
Whenever conflict stirs within the ranks, the Inquisitors are sent out to deal with the situation.
The title of Inquisitor within the Cold Embrace is one to be feared, as when the Inquisitors come, death follows.
Mythology
The ritual itself remains a complete mystery to anyone outside the Anarious family.
It's said that a vial of some kind of blood is fed to the Inquisitor during the ascension stage.
