Charles "Chax" Axian

Charles “Chax” Axian grew up an orphan with only his strength of will and body to comfort him. He found purpose in private military organizations until his late twenties when he joined Daikatana’s Private Security Forces. Charles worked for more than a decade as part of Daikatana’s Special Forces, training directly under Jeremiah Kretch, Callsign Shogun, the leader of Daikatana’s most illustrious squad, Squad Katana.
Upon completion of his training, Charles, now with the callsign “Claymore” was moved to his own squad, Squad Broadsword, where he specialized in augmented CQC as well as the operation of advanced weapons systems, being mostly assigned to missions that had a focus on target extraction and / or neutralization. Charles was a highly reliable asset, and was eventually promoted to second in command of Squad Broadsword.
One night, Daikatana’s main facility on Nox was being attacked by the Nox Liberation Front, or NLF. During the attack Squad Katana was deployed alongside Squad Broadsword to defend corporate interests throughout the facility from the encroaching NLF forces. As the intensity of the fighting hit it’s apex, Squad Katana leader, Jeremiah Kretch (Shogun) ordered Squad Broadsword to head into the depths of the facility in order to defend Daikatana’s most closely guarded research.
Despite not having proper security clearance to access the deeper labs, Squad Broadsward was immediately granted access by Kretch, as Katana was too pinned down to detach from the fighting in the upper levels.
Squad Broadsword descended into the lower levels and found many NLF forces had attained access via explosive charges and several subterranean tunnels. The fighting was thick and riddled with several casualties on Squad Broadsword. Despite this the NLF forces were all put down, securing highly sensitive Cybernetic research that Daikatana was experimenting with.
Only after the fighting stopped did Charles bear witness to the atrocities of Daikatana. Experiments on species and races of all kinds were being forcibly administered to individuals that society would pay no mind to. Organs on tables, bodies with too many limbs, or too few, being kept alive with metal tubes shoved into every orifice, pumping a steady flow of Nectar so the experiments could continue uninterrupted.
It was here that in a holding cell Charles discovered several Kree’ik that were rounded up as part of the next phase of test subjects. Of the Kree’ik trapped here was one Skeeki Von Keeri, who was investigating the inner workings of Daikatana, but had been captured. Charles freed the imprisoned individuals, now realizing the depths of his employer's depravity.

“And... I remember my squad. We went into this hell factory and were punished for it. My whole squad, gunned down in an instant by other operatives we trusted. Fuck… things flipped so fast… Don’t get me wrong, none of us were exactly model citizens or anything, but they were family to me… and I saw them all hit the floor.” - Chax

As Charles was leading the prisoners out of the facility, Squad Katana intercepted the remnants of Squad Broadsword. Upon Shogun's orders, the entirety of squad Katana opened fire on Broadsword, brutally wiping out everyone Charles had grown to call family. Charles barely escaped with his life, fleeing to one of the NLF tunnels, while leading several of the prisoners to safety. At the end of the tunnel, they reached an alley, and immediately started receiving fire from another squad of Daikatana. Squad Dagger, at the order of Kretch was positioned along the rooftops with strict orders to shoot friend or foe on sight.
After losing several of the prisoners, and receiving a number of injuries, Charles was able to open a line of communication to one of his associates on Squad Dagger, Vrell Strez, (Callsign Longbow.) After a panicked conversation, Vrell sided with Charles and in that moment signed her own death warrant as Vrell turned her sniper on her own squad and opened fire, sparing Charle’s life and that of Skeeki as well. After what felt like an eternity of vicious back alley fighting and cover fire from Vrell, Charles and Skeeki barely managed to make it to a ripperdoc, where Chax and Skeeki’s wounds were tended to. Vrell disappeared that night during Charle’s operation, leaving only a message of “I’ll see you before you see me. Keep your head down, Claymore.”
Once his wounds had healed, Charles and Skeeki parted ways as he headed off of Nox to eventually pursue life as a mercenary for hire under the alias “Chax.” Charles vowed to one day hunt down Jeremiah Kretch and obtain vengeance for his squad, and if possible, be a part of Daikatana’s exposure and downfall.
