Metric Murnong Ceolata

A veteran instructor of the Imperial Academy at Kitet, Metric Murnong is practically an institution unto herself. Born on 6th Mage in 3455 IE, to a farming community in the western reaches, Murnong followed the traditional course for an Academy student. She enrolled in the undergraduate program in 3477 to receive her Arcanist's in Evocation and Herbalism in 3503, proceeded directly into the graduate program, and passed her Metric's boards in 3510. Her Metrical, submitted in the month of the Deep in 3512, submitted a novel method for the direct evocation of Life and Earth for the promotion of healthy harvests, allowing for the quicker and easier use of magic for farming than the traditional casting of crop circles. Murnong was quickly passed, granted the title of Metric and her due crestwork, and hired into the Kitet Academy to instruct.

Upon receipt of her tenure, Metric Murnong has settled into the comfortable life of an Academy Metric, eventually teaching all five years of undergraduate Evocation as well as graduate-level Magical Taxonomy and Disciplinary Division. In the seven ectads since she began, Metric Murnong has run several iterations of her herbalism lab as well, focused on developing new techniques for the cultivation and use of herbs as magical reagents. Notably, though, she has never published a new spell in her entire tenure as a Metric, devoting her publishing efforts instead to the production of a plethora of descriptive textbooks and treatises on all manner of magical subjects. Many schools use Murnong's library as foundational primers for their arcane instruction, and her work has earned a reputation as lacking in higher understanding, but a functional basis for early instruction.

Metric Murnong is seen as something of an institution at the Academy, having been teaching there longer than many of the faculty have been alive, and with great grand-children currently in attendance. She carries herself with a great deal of physical gravitas, making every effort to stay fit and not give in to the decrepitude of her years. Murnong is a great believer in the value of tradition and traditional methods of education, and is known to have voiced many objections to some of the educational reforms brought about by younger Metrics like Parsnip Pasternak. Whether she truly takes affront to the wave of active and inquisitive students produced by these novel instructional methods, or to her personal loss of income as her texts are stripped from the curriculum, is hard to accurately gauge.
