Nilatse

Nilatse are large, stocky humanoids covered in shaggy fur that comes in a variety of colors and patterns. Originally from an arctic world, nilatse thrive in the many extreme environments encountered in space, often going without protective gear... or clothing.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Underneath their thick coat of fur, nilatse are roughly humanoid - two arms, two legs, a mostly distinct head - albeit significantly more heavyset. There is very little definition or differentiation between body parts due to their thick skin, uniform musculature, and a layer of insulating fat.

Genetics and Reproduction

Nilatse are arguably mammalian, and reproduce in the expected manner. Their fur is thick enough to obscure external anatomy other species might find objectionable, but the jury is out as to whether this makes their cultural fashion choices more or less weird.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Herbivorous, despite their prominent interlocking tusks.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Two eyes, large and prominent enough to be politely described as "bulging," but sensitive enough to be hidden behind fur with no loss in visual clarity. Nilatse do not have a nose, and smell by drawing air over their tongue.

Civilization and Culture

Common Dress Code

Most nilatse are avowed nudists, though individuals who spend a lot of time around other species will often wear a single item of clothing - a hat, a vest, a bandolier, etc.
Known Individuals
Average Height
7'-8'
Average Weight
300-500lbs
Average Physique
An individual's physique can vary dramatically in a surprisingly short time, as the amount of fat stored as insulation is dependent almost entirely on environmental stimuli. Nilatse in colder climes tend to be heavier, while those in more median climate-controlled environments tend to be lighter.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Fur coloration is most commonly red or orange, but darker tones are not unheard of. More unusual colors - yellow, white, blue - arise from adaptation to alien environments and can indicate which planetary classification an individual hails from. Patterns vary wildly, and can include stripes or patches.
