Aether Fox

Aether Foxes are a type of Spirit Familiar that find enjoyment in causing trouble through theft. On their own, the enjoy stealing things such as keys or your favorite spoon in order to make you work to get it back.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Aether Foxes, when in physical form, take the shape of the non-sapient counterparts namesake, Foxes. The easiest way to tell them apart from regular foxes is their behavior, due to having sapience. While in spirit form, they remain looking like foxes but their bodies are pure Aether energy, with various flowing colors such as purple and green.

Genetics and Reproduction

Aether Foxes do not have the ability to reproduce. Genetically in their physical form, they have almost identical genetic makeup as regular foxes. If they are killed on the mortal plane, they simply return to the Aether Source in the Aethereal Realm to rejuvenate.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Aether Foxes do not consume food in the traditional sense. Instead, they absorb raw Aether energy from the environment around them. However, despite not having regular dietary needs, they do enjoy stealing sweets from mortals, collecting them, and sometime consuming them for it's flavor.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Aether Foxes have increased hearing and sight compared to their animal counterparts. Echolocation is an ability that some of them possess, being able to ruffle their fur to cause sound waves that are hard for mortals to hear, though it is a rare ability.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Aether Foxes possess an ability called the All-Tongue. This gives them the ability to understand any language after a short period of listening to it. It also allows them to communicate using said language verbally and telepathically, however using simple words and phrases.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Most sentient peoples view Aether Foxes as a gray spirit, one that is neither evil nor good. While it is rare to spot one, they are seen as an omen of thievery. If someone spots one, they will generally hide their valuables. The only exception to this general view is that of thieves, pirates and bandits, who view them as risky at first but potentially helpful if they can form a bond.
