Angels
"It's simple. Freedom is a length of rope, god wants you to hang yourself with it" ― Castiel, Supernatural (Season 6 Episode 20/The Man Who Would be King)
Angels are the opposite to demons in every single way. Angels exist to serve god and heaven, they are warriors and healers before they are anything else. They are beings of order, justice and light. That does not mean they are pure good, they can become demons. Even the most beautiful angels can fall. Angels can be as cruel as demons, sometimes crueler. They believe that the ends will always justify the means. That if the cause is righteous then it doesn’t matter how cruel you have to be to achieve it.
Angel Hierarchy
Like demons, Angels have hierarchy based on power and prestige. The higher rank the angel, the more powerful they are.Archangel
Archangels were the first angels that God ever created and are the leaders of the angels as well as rulers of heaven in God’s absence. Angels of lower ranks can ascend and become Archangels. Only 9 out of the 11 that exist were born as archangels, the rest ascended to the rank. Only 9 archangels live in heaven.Attendants/Assistants Angels (1st Triad)
Angels that attend to God personally and assist the archangels with their duties. There are three types of Attendant/Assistant Angels and each one is tasked with something different.Seraphim
Seraphim are the highest order within the 1st Triad and serve as the closest attendants to God. They are primarily responsible for the general maintenance of heaven, ensuring that the divine realm remains in perfect harmony. Their duties include safeguarding the throne of God and upholding the sanctity of the divine presence.Cherubim
Cherubim are assigned to protect sacred spaces and divine mysteries. Historically, they have been tasked with guarding significant locations such as the Garden of Eden and the Ark of the Covenant. Their role involves not only physical protection but also the safeguarding of divine secrets and knowledge.Thrones
Thrones serve as assistants to the Archangels, providing support in the administration and execution of divine orders. They are often involved in carrying out the decisions made by the higher orders and ensuring that the divine plans are implemented effectively. Their role is crucial in the organization and management of celestial affairs.Universe Angels (2nd Triad)
Angels who fulfill God’s plan in the universe and make sure that everything is going accordingly. They are also tasked with fixing anything that may go wrong. They are sometimes called Fate AngelsDominions
Dominions are the governing angels responsible for overseeing the broader structure of the universe. They act as intermediaries between God and the Universe Angels, relaying divine directives and ensuring that the celestial and mortal realms operate according to divine will.Virtues
Virtues Angels are known for their control over the elements and their role in guiding the universe along its divine path. They are involved in the manifestation of miracles and the regulation of natural phenomena, ensuring that the elements function harmoniously in accordance with divine intent. Virtues often serve as conduits for divine will, channeling miracles and providing guidance for the universe’s evolution. Their presence is crucial for maintaining the equilibrium of natural forces and facilitating divine interventions. They are sometimes referred to as "Wish Angels" due to their role in making divine wishes and miracles a reality.Powers
Powers Angels are the enforcers of cosmic order, tasked with correcting any deviations or disruptions within the universe. They deal with anomalies, enforce divine justice, and confront demonic forces that threaten the balance of creation. Powers act as the cosmic troubleshooters, ensuring that all creation adheres to its intended path and rectifying any disturbances caused by demonic interference or cosmic anomalies. They are frequently in conflict with demons, making them key players in maintaining the integrity of divine order.Human Angels (3rd Triad)
Human angels are angels that have the most direct interactions with humans and demons. They are often out and about in the world and don’t often stay in heaven for long periods of time. Human angels are what we think of when we think of angels.Messenger Angels
Messenger Angels are tasked with delivering divine communications from heaven to humans. They are the primary conduits through which God’s messages, guidance, and instructions reach mortals. These angels are crucial in situations requiring divine intervention or clarification, often acting during pivotal moments of transition or decision-making. Their responsibilities extend beyond mere communication; they also play roles in caring for and guiding entire communities or nations. They are often associated with transitions of power.Warrior Angels
Warrior Angels form the backbone of heaven’s military forces and are primarily engaged in combating demonic threats and protecting the celestial order. They are involved in the most intense and direct conflicts with demonic entities, often operating in the mortal realm to confront evil and uphold divine justice. Their presence on Earth is frequent, as they are dispatched to handle significant threats and ensure that the balance between good and evil is maintained.Guardian Angels
Guardian Angels are devoted to the personal protection and guidance of individual humans. They are assigned to specific individuals, offering constant support, protection, and guidance throughout their lives. These angels work behind the scenes, influencing events and providing subtle guidance to help their charges navigate life’s challenges. Guardian Angels are the most intimate and personal of celestial beings, forming a close bond with the humans they protect. Their role is predominantly Earth-based, with their presence felt through moments of serendipity, protection from harm, and guidance during critical life events. They are only ever called back to heaven during emergencies.Basic Information
Anatomy
Angels have two forms: their true celestial form and their human form.
Celestial Form
Angels in their true forms have massive radiant wings of light that shimmer with a color representing their rank or role (e.g., fiery for warrior angels, soft gold for guardian angels). Higher-ranking angels, like Seraphim or Archangels, have multiple wings, often depicted with six wings—two to cover their face, two to cover their feet, and two to fly. Lower-ranking angels only have two wings. Their bodies are made of pure energy, often described as blinding light, swirling flames, or glowing figures with sharp, angular features. They radiate different types of light (blinding, iridescent, or pulsing) based on their mood or power level. Any mortal who glimpses their true form will experience overwhelming light, often accompanied by an intense heat, as though standing before the sun. The light can burn human eyes out instantly or cause blindness from sheer exposure. The sound of their presence—whether wings, movement, or their voice—causes physical effects, such as trembling ground or vibrating air. Mortal ears may bleed or be overwhelmed by the sound, unable to withstand the sheer power of angelic speech. Their presence can alter the weather or the environment. For example, when they descend to Earth in their celestial form, storms, earthquakes, or shifts in nature occur, symbolizing their cosmic power. When angels speak, their voices resonate like a choir, with multiple tones or harmonies coming from a single angel. This gives their speech a layered, almost musical quality. Higher-ranking angels like Archangels have a voice that can shake the very fabric of reality, while lower-ranking angels have softer, more comforting voices. Angels can communicate without words, using flashes of light or divine energy that impart messages directly into the minds of those they interact with. This form of communication is often overwhelming for mortals, who may experience it as a vision or an overpowering emotion. Due to the intensity of their celestial form, angels may rarely appear in this state on Earth unless it's for the most critical events. They might need to "veil" themselves in some way (like wrapping themselves in their wings) to lessen the damage to their surroundings. When angels fight in their celestial form, they might protect their human allies or other celestial beings from the blinding effects by creating a shield or veil around them.Human Form
Angels in human form have physical beauty that is almost unnerving, with flawless skin, striking eyes, and perfect symmetry. While they look human, there’s an otherworldly aura about them, as if something divine lies just beneath the surface. Their eyes still hold hints of their celestial nature, glowing faintly under certain circumstances (such as when using divine power) or containing swirling patterns, like galaxies. Their voices are soothing and hypnotic, having a naturally commanding presence. When speaking with divine authority, their voice could cause an overwhelming sense of calm, awe, or even fear in mortals. Their wings, while normally hidden in human form, can manifest when needed. These wings can shift between being ethereal (non-corporeal) and physical. When visible, they look like they’re made of light and can stretch out to immense lengths. When hidden, they might fade into the angel’s back, leaving a faint shimmer behind. When an angel transforms from human to celestial form, the sheer force of the transformation could send shockwaves through the area, causing mortals around them to suffer or even die if they’re too close. The transformation starts with their eyes glowing brighter, their voice resonating with divine power, and their wings slowly becoming visible before their full celestial form takes shape. Subtle signs, like a soft glow around their body, a change in temperature, or an unusual breeze, might precede the shift, giving mortals a chance to avert their gaze before the transformation is complete. Both Forms
There are similarities between the two forms for example both possess a halo or crown of light hovering above their heads. For Archangels, this could appear as a blazing sun-like disk, while for lower angels, it might be a dimmer, more subtle glow. The intensity of the halo reflects their closeness to God’s will and power. However this halo is much more subtle in their human forms often taking the form of a strange circular birthmark on their foreheads.Genetics and Reproduction
Angels, like Grim Reapers don’t reproduce sexually like most living creatures in the universe, instead they were created by the Abrahamic god to take care of his realm. However, because he has been tasked with guarding the Doors of Time by the Council of Gods, new angels haven’t been born in many, many years. Angels cannot reproduce with mortals or other celestial beings such as Grim Reapers or demons through traditional means. Instead hybrid angels are created by mixing Grace with DNA or something that is the equivalent to DNA. These creatures are known by many names but the most common one is the Nephilim. Nephilims are considered to be abominations by most angels, especially if they have a demon parent, and are therefore killed upon discovery. It is said that some fallen angels, in their corrupted form as demons, may attempt to mate with mortals or other demonic entities. However, these offspring (if they were to exist) would be wholly demonic in nature, having no trace of the divine Grace that once belonged to their angelic parent.
Growth Rate & Stages
Angels are created fully formed by God, with their roles and purposes preordained. They emerge into existence with their bodies, powers, and minds fully intact. There is no infancy or childhood stage, as angels are brought into being as complete entities. They grow and evolve mentally but angels do not age, sicken, or decay as biological creatures do. They remain ageless and unchanging unless they are stripped of their Grace or fall from their divine status. This immortality has allowed the angelic population to remain stable despite the lack of new births. Each angel's form, both their true celestial form and their human-like appearance, was determined upon their creation. These forms do not change over time, and there is no genetic variation as seen in biological creatures. Angels are immutable unless they fall or undergo significant divine intervention.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Angels do not require food, drink, or sleep. They exist as eternal beings, sustained purely by divine power. However, when in human form, they may mimic mortal actions, like eating or resting, to blend in, though it serves no actual purpose for them.
Behaviour
Angels are purpose-driven celestial beings created by God, with their entire existence centered around fulfilling their divine duties. They follow a strict moral code aligned with divine law, viewing justice in black-and-white terms. While capable of deep emotion, angels are taught to suppress personal feelings to remain impartial in carrying out their tasks. This can make them seem cold or detached, especially when dealing with mortal concerns. Their mission-oriented nature drives them to prioritize cosmic order over individual lives, often believing that the ends justify the means. Angels rarely disobey commands, though they possess free will, and rebellion against divine law can lead to their fall, transforming them into demons.
Interactions with mortals are marked by a sense of superiority, as angels see humanity as fragile and limited in understanding. They protect and guide mortals but maintain a distant, formal demeanor, rarely engaging in deep relationships. Despite their detachment, Guardian Angels may develop emotional bonds with their wards, leading to moments of self-sacrifice. The angelic hierarchy is deeply ingrained in the psyche of all angels. They respect and follow the commands of higher-ranking beings, such as Archangels, without question. The hierarchy itself reflects the divine order, and defying this structure is considered the height of rebellion.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Angels were created to serve as divine protectors of both heaven and humanity, fulfilling roles that range from guardianship and guidance to enforcement of cosmic order and justice. Their primary use is to uphold divine laws and ensure the smooth functioning of the celestial and mortal realms.
Facial characteristics
When in their true form Higher-ranking angels might have multiple eyes, symbolizing their all-seeing nature and omniscience. These eyes may appear on their wings, arms, or even in more abstract forms, like glowing spheres that orbit them. The color and appearance of these eyes can change according to their specific duties or the divine aspects they embody, reflecting their roles and functions within the heavenly hierarchy. While in their human forms, angels typically exhibit strikingly perfect and symmetrical facial features, often characterized by an ethereal beauty that transcends human standards. Their eyes in human form are usually a vibrant, captivating color and convey a sense of depth and wisdom.
Average Intelligence
Angels possess exceptionally high intelligence, far surpassing that of mortals. Their intellect is not just academic but encompasses strategic thinking, deep spiritual insight, and vast knowledge of cosmic laws and divine truths. They have an innate understanding of the universe, its mechanics, and its intricacies, especially regarding matters of life, death, and morality. However, their intelligence can sometimes be rigid, as they prioritize order and divine law over flexibility or emotional nuance. While they are capable of learning and adapting, angels often rely on their divine knowledge and intuition rather than the exploration of new ideas.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Angels’ senses, like many higher level beings such as royalty level demons and grim reapers, have advanced senses able to hear, see, smell, and taste better than almost any creature alive. Angels also have the ability to see the polarity of a soul, a trait they share with demons, gods, and grim reapers. Angels can hear prayers, even when spoken silently in the minds of mortals. They can differentiate genuine cries for help from insincere words, tuning into the spiritual "frequency" of a person’s soul to determine the urgency or truth behind a request.
Angels possess a powerful form of extrasensory empathy, allowing them to feel the emotional states of others as though they were their own. This empathy transcends species, enabling angels to understand the emotions and intentions of humans, animals, and even magical creatures. Angels are instinctively aware of God’s will or divine directives. They experience subtle nudges or "calls" that guide them in fulfilling their duties, whether it be intervening in a battle, delivering a message, or protecting a soul. This instinctual connection allows them to act swiftly without the need for explicit orders.
Angels experience time differently than mortals. They can slow down their perception to analyze events unfolding in fractions of seconds, giving them an almost preternatural ability to dodge attacks, make decisions, and assess outcomes. To them, the flow of time is fluid and can be stretched or compressed as needed. Some angels, especially those like Jophiel, possess a form of divine foresight, allowing them to see potential futures. While not omniscient, they can perceive likely outcomes of events based on the current course of action. This helps them act as guides and advisors to humans and other beings.
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
Angels do not have parasitic species; however, they do maintain symbiotic relationships with certain beings. Humans and Grim Reapers are examples of such symbiotic relationships. Humans benefit from the protective and guiding presence of Guardian Angels, while Grim Reapers, who manage the transition of souls, collaborate with angels in maintaining cosmic balance and order. This interdependence allows each species to fulfill its role in the universe while supporting the others in their respective duties.
Angel Grace
Angel Grace is the celestial embodiment of pure positive soul energy, making angels unique in that their very existence is powered entirely by this force. Unlike other beings that possess a mix of positive and negative energies, angels draw only from positive energy, which grants them their incredible strength and divine abilities. Grace serves as their version of a soul, but far more potent, representing the direct will of God or the divine in physical form. Angels can store around 90-95% of their Grace within their physical forms, which explains why they are far more powerful than other beings that rely on lesser amounts of soul energy. This extreme concentration of positive energy makes them both incredibly powerful but also potentially dangerous if they are corrupted or fall from grace. The amount of energy they hold can create catastrophic consequences if not controlled. Grace allows angels to heal, protect, or destroy with divine precision and manifests as a protective aura around them, which repels dark or negative energy and can enhance the abilities of other positive-energy users around them. It also acts as a natural shield against demonic forces. Grace can also be weaponized, allowing angels to summon weapons of light or energy directly tied to their Grace. These weapons are infused with destructive power, especially harmful to dark entities or demonic creatures. Those who fall from grace (e.g., Lucifer) experience a corruption or inversion of their positive energy, which turns them into demons. When an angel falls, their Grace mutates into Blight, becoming a destructive, corrupting force rather than a source of pure divine power. Angels that overdose on harmful positive energy or who lose control of their Grace may experience Desolation, the catastrophic destruction of their soul. In the case of angels, this can lead to a permanent loss of their celestial nature, potentially rendering them powerless or obliterated from existence. For demons and fallen angels, their soul undergoes Blight, a process where negative energy corrupts their very essence, twisting their nature into something malevolent. Fallen angels still carry remnants of Grace but it has become dark, filled with hate and wrath. Through Grace, angels can perform miracles, acts that go beyond the scope of normal magic. They can alter the fabric of reality, such as resurrecting the dead or banishing demons with a single touch. These miracles, though rare, demonstrate the raw power of Grace. They also use Grace to create divine wards that repel dark entities or protect sacred places. Such wards are nearly impossible to break without similarly powerful positive energy.Blood
Angel blood is a physical manifestation of their divine essence, directly connected to their Grace. Unlike mortal blood, angelic blood glows faintly with a radiant light, often shifting in color depending on the angel's mood or their rank within the hierarchy. The glow is a sign of the positive soul energy coursing through them. While angelic blood looks somewhat like a glowing liquid, it is composed of condensed positive soul energy, making it potent and imbued with divine power. When spilled, the blood can remain active for a short time, potentially causing miraculous or destructive effects depending on the situation. Angel blood has incredible healing properties, capable of curing mortal wounds, diseases, and even purging the effects of corruption or dark magic. If ingested by a human or another creature, it can heal them rapidly, but it may also cause severe Grace Overload, where the mortal body cannot handle the divine power within the blood. Some beings, particularly holy warriors or chosen humans, can use angelic blood to gain temporary boosts in strength, speed, or magical power. However, doing so often comes with risks—overuse could lead to soul destruction, as the mortal body cannot withstand prolonged exposure to pure positive energy. Blood spilled from an angel can be used to create powerful wards and holy symbols that repel demons, dark magic, or cursed beings. These wards can remain in place as long as the blood’s energy lingers, although over time, it will dissipate unless maintained by an angel's presence. When an angel loses a significant amount of blood, they also lose a portion of their Grace. This weakens them both physically and spiritually, limiting their abilities until they can recover. Excessive loss of blood might even lead to an angel losing control of their positive soul energy, causing them to become vulnerable to Blight. For a powerful angel like an Archangel, this could accelerate their descent into a fallen angel state. Angel blood can be used in rituals by those powerful or knowledgeable enough to harness its divine power. This is often considered dangerous or sacrilegious, as tapping into the blood’s energy without understanding can lead to severe consequences. However, it could be used for summoning angels, opening gateways to heaven, or banishing demonic entities. In extreme circumstances, an angel can willingly sacrifice their blood to perform incredibly powerful acts of magic, such as reviving the dead, destroying entire legions of demons, or altering the fabric of reality. This act, though, is often fatal or leaves the angel in a weakened, vulnerable state for centuries. For demons and dark entities, angel blood is toxic. Even the smallest amount of angelic blood can burn through their form, causing intense pain and corruption to their dark soul energy. In some cases, it can even banish weaker demons back to their realm. Inversely, if a demon manages to corrupt angel blood, it becomes a twisted, destructive substance that can be used against other angels.Scent
Angels smell like rain and ozone. When angels are nearby, the atmosphere may become lighter, filled with a cool, refreshing rain-like fragrance that brings calm and hope to those around them. This scent can have a soothing effect on humans, easing fears or anxiety. In fact humans and other beings react to an angel's scent on an instinctive, almost spiritual level. Angels may leave faint traces of their scent in places they visit, allowing other angels (and perhaps highly sensitive beings) to know where they’ve been. The intensity of the scent could also indicate the angel’s mood or level of Grace—when fully powered, their presence could fill an entire space with the smell of a coming storm, while a weakened or fallen angel may carry only a faint trace of it.
