Naazey

The Indigenous people of the western continent of Oroii. These lizards dominate a large part of the fertile central and northern parts of the continent, and over the millennia, have built a powerful society for themselves. Naazey's influence is enormous and they have repeatedly been involved in numerous conflicts to ensure the realization of their own interests.   Their society is based on massive families, whose matriarchs form the leading government. These families are also constantly competing for power and they are always trying to show themselves better than others. This has made the race very proud, and the fact that the gods are often presented as lizards, like Naazey themselves, is not helping.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

There are multiple different subspecies of Naazey. Easily the most common one is the ordinary Naazey, which the Matriarch often call as "drones". They are builders, farmers and scientists of the Naazey society.   Second species are the "Warrior Broods" who are bred for fighting and heavy labor, they form the bulk of the Naazey armies. They are broader and stronger than any other Naazey species, but their more primal mindset means that they rarely become something like scientists or philosophers.   And finally there are the "Matriarchs" a purely female subspecies. They are the leaders and diplomats of the Naazey society. They are taller and slender that other species and they have an ability to learn fast and their innate charisma compels others to follow their lead.   Every once in a while, when the blessed hidden second moon's invisible rays pierce the sacred Ordu, a Revered Matriarch is born. Being even larger than the "lesser" Matriarchs and twice as large as the common Naazey. The Revered Matriarchs are considered to be holy and are the only Naazey given the right to be the leaders of Nay-Gissar's Great Houses. They are relatively rare and each one of them are given power over most of the Naazey. Reverend Matriachs who are not currently the leaders of Houses are called "Matriarch Princesses".   Most males have little to no head-frills and some even have long spikes instead, with some being completely "bald" Females on the other hand usually have a colorful head-frills that go from their upper forehead, to the back of the neck.

Naming Traditions

Feminine names: Een, Zhuur'vas, IIh'na, Shaa'na   Masculine names: Yaah'ra, Kaar'un, Vaas, Fuaar'aan   Naazey names can be complicated to understand for uninitiated, but in reality they are more simple than many would think. They are often formed and meant to rhyme and sound as elegant as possible.
Feminine names have more musicality and flow in them. This is because the Naazey Matriarch's voices have a singing quality to their speech and because Matriarchs have such an important place in a Naazey society, this flow is often emphasized in the feminine names.
Masculine names instead often have rough sounding consonants, this is to give them separation from Matriarchs.
The names are also often given suffixes to signify a place in the society. They are often given around when the Naazey is reaching adulhood and finding an occupation. Two letter suffixes such as "Na" and "Ra are common and are given to your common Naazey. Three letter suffixes instead are more rare and are often given to signify great importance. Be it for a house noble or a place name. Four letter suffixes are only given to gods.   Then finally, if the person belongs to a great house, it is always stated in the name. All these are then tied together with and " ' " and suffixes are written in lowercase and the housenames starts with an uppercase letter. Examples: "Yuu'us", "Saa'as'Uuth", "Zhuur’vas’Naat’Hees" and "Vaas'Aas'Huun".

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Naazey culture in general is that of selflessness and dedication to your Great Family. You are expected to live, work, improve and die in the name of their colors. Those that have proven themselves, or proven they are a worthy of investment, are provided and tutored.   The presence of Matriarchs have even affected people outside of Nay-Gissar. Having a long history of interaction between their folks. The Dalis and Humans of Oroii and westerns Ardean, especially in Eleann are historically not opposed of having women in leading roles and these people enjoy an unprecedented levels egalitarianism.

History

Many scholars agree, that they were some of the first great cultures to rise. There are indications that they had some impact even as far as the mythical age, however it's not known if they anything close to real society back then. They were key players during the Greater Dalis times. And even now, they have a steady foothold on Eleann politics.
