Hall of the Ages

A loose association of scholars, historians, sorcerers, and adventurers with the goal of documenting and preserving the stories of the past. The Hall of Ages has a large library outside Duraegh but has many agents and smaller chapters throughout the Periphery of Man and the Approach. They hope to unravel the knowledge of ancient kingdoms and cultures, preserve their histories, and rediscover the lessons of the past.

Although agnostic of any faith, culture, or methodology, the Hall of Ages is strictly an academic and cultural institute, taking very little freedom with altering any myths, relics, or stories they uncover. Everything is recorded in the state that it was discovered in an effort to reduce any bias or political influence their discoveries might have on society. Due to the nature of their work, members of the Hall practice a wide variety of skills so as to correctly interpret discoveries made across cultures, species, and otherworldly realms.

The Hall of Ages is funded mostly through its field agents who pay dues to the Hall, but they also receive funding from Duraegh and various contributors who want to see the past preserved.

Structure

The Hall of Ages functions on a guild-structure with a strong emphasis on journeyman expansion. It is encouraged for those who attain the rank of Scholar to spread out and establish satellite locations from which future members can use as a base for expeditions and research.

Ranks

Student The Student is responsible for menial tasks including clerical and physical work, usually as an apprentice to a more senior member of the College. The Student learns from practical on-the-job experience as well as book learning and reading. Many Students pick up the trade of their mentor, of which there are a myriad of (thanks to the Hall’s wide variety of member expertise).

Associate
A Student becomes an Associate when their mentor deems them ready to work on a project with little to no guidance. The Associate is essentially a senior level student that has the knowledge to begin working on their own projects, with some guidance from more senior members. Associates generally form cohorts with other Associates that work on projects together as a way to prepare for their next step into Scholarship.

Scholar
A Student becomes a Scholar once they have completed a project of significance to the College or contributed a total amount of work to deem their overall contribution as significant. Scholars are the backbone of the College of Ages. They are responsible for some of the more groundbreaking discoveries, projects, anthologies, and works. Scholars tend to practice a variety of disciplines and generally work with Scholars of similar expertise as to share knowledge and discoveries.

Keeper
Keepers are leaders of chapters of the College, responsible for administration of the chapter and dealing with local governments and funding. They are assisted by Senior Scholars when needed, and the position of Keeper is granted to retired Scholars that can either no longer contribute effectively as a Scholar or have chosen to step down and act as Keeper voluntarily. There can be multiple Keepers within a chapter, depending on the size and need for diplomacy with the local authority.
