At A Glance
The Sodality of the Green is a brotherhood of individuals that take responsibility for the protection of greenways and woods. With the Taking, the wilderness was despoiled and poisoned by the excesses of the subhumans. The recovery in some places has taken generations. The Sodality is less-formal than a true order but has adherents in both Auredain and Ilaern. It works closely with Druidic Circles and many members follow the ways of older, primal faiths especially those of sylvan persuasion. The Sodality’s members are commonly located in or near their homes where they dedicate a portion of their time to the goals of the group. The group maintains close ties with those of similar mindset such as foresters and woodsfolk.Structure
Membership
There are two tiers to the Sodality although, technically, only one tier are actually considered members (also known as Sodales). The external tier consists of a robust network of commoners, travelers, wandering druids, hermits, sylvan folk such as dryads, satyrs and the like. This outer group forms an informant and resource network that is primarily word of mouth. In return, the Sodales are quick to assist them or, if necessary, avenge them. These informal affiliations are the lifeblood of the organization's existence. The internal tier, actual Sodales, consists of a wide range of individuals but mostly capable individuals who are drawn to the greenways. Rangers, sentinels, druids, and hunters make up the vast majority of actual Sodales.
Hierarchy
The Sodality has an informal membership but tough initiations. Once accepted, the Sodality usually leaves its members alone and trusts them to act within their means. When in need of help, a member may use word-of-mouth with wandering members to request assistance. Those members who have proven themselves to the trees and animal life may be gifted with the ability to pass a message by unconventional means. The older, more-storied members of the Sodality often impart news and messages through these means. So it is not unknown for a member to hear the words of an elder in the wind, amongst the rustling of leaves or being chirped by a bird on their windowsill.Elder Sodales: Those members who have spent years working on behalf of the Sodality and the greenways. Even just longevity is not enough to be considered an Elder although there is no actual bestowing of the rank. Those who have earned such a title often eschew its use themselves. It is simply known among other sodales whom the Elders are and of their activities.
Sodales: A Sodales is a full member of the Sodality and has sworn oaths to that effect. This ranking is made up of all members who are not Elders or Aspirants. There is an informal pecking order but it means nothing and is primarily based on services to their cause, dedication and years under oath.
Aspirant: An Aspirant is an individual who has pledged their dedication to the Sodality. They may do this freely through their own actions and passions or be mentored under another Sodales. Most individuals are taken as apprentices by another Sodales to follow and learn the ways. An uncommon few come to knowledge of the Sodality by their actions and may be accepted as an Aspirant. This position conveys no formal authority or powers just that other members of the Sodality will learn of their affiliation. It is up to the individual to rise up and take the mantle of Sodales for their own shoulders.
Assets
The Sodality’s assets consists of its goodwill amongst the trees, aid from the commonfolk and each other as well as the Druidic Circles. It relies on each member and an extensive informal network amongst the commoners in each member’s area to provide assets as needed. Members who have settled down or are tied to the land will aid those Sodales that need to be aided with resources, a bed for the night, or anything from a fey stallion to a quiver of arrows. All give to the cause as much as they can bear the cost.
