Beneath the Thorns

by Leigh Janzen

A dark romantic fantasy blending the Scottish ballad of Tam Lin and the Slavic folktales of Koschei the Deathless.

Veray Bátori wants nothing more than to be free of the suffocating control that has ruled her entire life, ultimately trapping her in an unwanted marriage. But being kidnapped by bandits and drug into the wilderness is hardly a better option. Particularly when the bandits’ leader is making it so very difficult to keep the one secret that is worth more than her soul.

Tamlyn Danirov is fighting a war that was lost before he was born. With his people enslaved to an evil sorcerer, Tam makes one last suicidal attempt at ending the tyrant’s rule, an attempt that leaves him saddled with the sorcerer’s reluctant bride instead. Now, he and his people are being hunted without mercy, leaving Tam to wonder if he stole more than he knew in the mysterious girl.

With the sorcerer’s power growing and the threat eclipsing borders and kingdoms alike, the only hope for either of them is a half forgotten prophecy and the secret that could save an entire people… or damn them forever.
