Astra Militarum

Due to the tumultuous nature of Arcturus, Guardsman are few and far between. Despite this however, every Guardsman you do end up meeting are incredibly experienced, and nigh unbreakable. The Arcturus Guardsman have witnessed horrors that the rest of the Imperium dare not even comprehend.

Emraan Guard
Emrah was one of the Imperium's most important fortress worlds, of course not being quite on the same level as Cadia, however still proving to be one of the stronger Imperium strongholds. The guard that was here proved itself very well. Their doctrine was primarily defense related, since that was most of the experience in battle. They knew very well how to utilize trenches, but their most effective position by far was within a fortress. With indirect fire and a method in which they could starve their enemy far before they would have to worry about even running out of their first supply of rations. Emrah's most successful hour was against the Chaos Legion of the World Eaters, their attack was almost entirely spontaneous, and as such they had the upper hand. But this didn't impact the morale of the Emraan Guard, they mobilized their indirect fire almost immediately, firing upon every position of the traitor Astartes with unbelievable precision. It was two long weeks for the traitors before they eventually had so few numbers that they had no choice but to flee. The Guard however had suffered almost no casualties save for the men that were lost in the initial conflict.

It almost seemed impossible to break them within their fortresses on Emrah, however a greenskin by the name of Borkul was soon to prove that they weren't quite invincible. Borkul's strategy was precise, he knew full well that Emrah's main way to beat their enemies was indirect fire and attrition, Borkul's response to this was overwhelming numbers and utilizing Weirdboyz to render their walls worthless. He also used Mekboyz to try to soak up the artillery fire, though this tactic could've been carried out better, it worked well enough for him to claim many fortresses for himself.

This unfortunately spelled the end of the Emraan Guard, however, they were determined to make a final stand within the Imperial Hold, the largest fortress on the planet. They mustered all of the rest of the ammunition that they had stockpiled and destroyed certain buildings for the sake of strategic positioning. This final stand proved to give the greenskins a run for their money, as all of their Mekboyz were either slaughtered or maimed beyond further utilization, and most of their numbers were cut too low for them to utilize the advantage of numbers. However, Borkul himself took to the battlefield, his slapped on scrap proved to repel the artillery fairly well as the Emraan ordinance was more for larger area of effect bursts, which utilized smaller shells for the advantage of quicker loading. This proved to be their downfall, Borkul soaked all of the rest of the ammunition as he led the last of his force to the final gate in the inner fortress. Despite all of the men knowing that their end was upon them, they knew that becoming discouraged and not fighting would serve them no good either, there was nowhere to go after all. The gates were obliterated and the greentide made it's way through the opening. Guardsmen killed countless orks, but unfortunately they didn't have the ammo, or the distance, to finish off the last of the greenskins. All of the Guardsmen lost their lives on that fateful day.
