The Lonely Fetchling

Filli's creativity is rarely a poor thing, but one cannot always be correct.

In a nomadic halfling tribe, there was a poor woman named Rayna. She was the sole woman who did not have a partner at the end of her tribe's matchmaking ritual. Filli, paying attention to the poor soul, took pity; despite her status in the tribe, she was a fantastic and creative artist, who made incredible and unique candles from twine and bark. So, Filli offered to make her a friend; she constructed a man out of Rayna's shadow as it danced in a flame.

Dances-In-Candles would be Rayna's life partner, and they would have four children together. She would remain in her tribe for her entire life, as she felt a connection to her parents, friends, and homes. However, her community would look at her husband with fear and jealousy; it is not often that Filli grants the wishes of a single individual. It did not help that Dances was incredibly attractive, fueled by the beauty of Rayna's candles.

This jealousy reached an unfortunate pitch when Rayna and her family were drowned when going on a flower picking journey. Dances was spared by his innate ability to breath in any area, and he mourned the death of his love for a long, long time.

His connection to Filli would make him immortal, and the poor Shadow Being had no concept of any goals outside of Rayna's; he was built to serve, after all. So, Dances wanders the world, looking for new loves.

His looks and Charisma make him surprisingly popular, as does his exotic appearance. He finds lovers in many different tribes, but none satisfy him like his first wife did. He is especially attached to those who worship Ïllume, or make art with light in some way.

Despite breaking up with many men and women, few truly hate him. His general innocence and love for his dead family make it difficult to blame him for looking for love but not finding it. So, he continues searching, perhaps to one day find the one.

After Dances-In-Candles, Fetchlings (or other Shadow Races) have been created on the Arengold Tree. Dances-In-Candles doesn't find solace in the race, so a small tribe has been formed in the far Eastern Roots.
