THE ASCENSION WAR

Created by

The Ascension War is a dark fantasy with cyberpunk and cosmic horror elements. It is set around three centuries from now when humanity has spread to other worlds via portals that led to the Otherworld, the inspiration for many of our myths and legends. In reality it is a group of exo planets in a distant stellar cluster connected to Earth and one another by a network of wormholes or stable Einstien-Rosen Bridges.

Through mysterious means the long defunct portal on Earth was rediscovered and reactivated, allowing humanity to colonize Otherworld, conquering the native peoples and establishing themselves as the new dominant power. Thus began a new age wherein the megacorporations who had backed the exploration of Otherworld grew more and more powerful and the untapped wealth and resources were reaped, to the detriment of the people of Otherworld and the overwhelming majority of humans on Earth.

The story unfolds centuries later. A new empire has formed, dominated by the noble Houses who formed from the powerful megacorporations. The Emperor of House Tennyson is dying and various groups and factions within and without seek to establish their own candiate as successor, prompting infighting, blackmail and assinations and the potential of outright civil war between the Houses.

Elsewhere the long subjigated peoples of Otherworld and Earth stir as dissent grows and see the ailing Emperor and Imperial control weakening as a chance to free themselves. Meanwhile long dormant powers begin to stir, adding to the chaos set to unfold as dark forces gather, threatening to bring about an apocalyptic end game.

The story follows various groups. A ragtag band of misfits and rogues trying to fight the mysterious threat that wants the apocalypse. The children of the ailing Emperor seeking to claim the title of Emperor and their struggles with one another and those of other Houses. And finally the rebellion movement that is uniting human and otherwise against the oppressive Imperial regime.

The denizens of Otherworld are standard fantasy fare such as Orcs, Dwarves, Trolls, Elves, Dragons, Giants etc but given what I hope to be unique spins. The setting itself ranges from crowded megacities to glorious fantastic vistas, floating islands, ancient primeaval forests and far stranger enviroments. Technology ranges from the cyberpunk level to medival and magic endures as a rare but very powerful and dangerous force.
