Introductory Reading List

"When the mind opens, learning flows, but its stream will pool and flood without the banks of wisdom to guide it's direction."
— Polymanis
This article serves as an introductory guide to the Auric City with a suggested reading list. These eight pages will provide information on the core concepts of the setting in a way that both builds upon pre-established information and hints at new topics. It's not necessary to read all of them or in the exact order that they're listed, but it should help for those who might be interested in the world and together they provide the needed context for almost every article. You might also find useful the homepage vignette which is intended to summarize the general state of the Auric City in 757AL.
  1. Arad and the Western Sea. This pair of very short articles will give a simple overview of the basic geography of the setting. It's also recommended that you read the pages under the organisation tree at the bottom of the article which are also very short.
  2. Thripia. This article will introduce the setting itself, the city of Thripia, and provide a general overview of important places, some factions and some minor history. It also links to a map of the setting which you can otherwise also find here. It is recommended you use this map to identify the locations of places described in the article.
  3. Ichor. One of the most important facets of the setting, this article will introduce the key concept behind the Auric City. Although it is not required, further reading on the subject can be done with the articles on gold hunger, bees and sungold trees.
  4. The Oracular Arts. With an understanding of the way in which ichor is traded, produced and used, this article will provide more insight into the way it functions.
  5. The Guilds of Coin. Thripia's politics and power balance is largely based around the guilds and this article serves as a summation of their functioning and place in society. Further reading can include the Wise Council and the Cult of Sargos for more on Thripian politics.
  6. The Cabal of the Black. Understanding the philosophy and agenda of the Cabal of the Black defines the central conflict in the Auric City between them and the guilds.
  7. The Dynasty King. This article gives context to Thripia's recent history as well as to its extensive past which is summarized in the timeline of the Thraeo Dynasty which can also be found here. For the timeline, while it is not necessary to read the whole thing, it can provide a good general context for Thripia's history.
