Corgastor Ghedelon

The individual who destroyed Étunas and brought down the Alor’eshan Atûn was born as Corgastor, son of Ghedelastor around the year -30 in a village named Velgishemas. His father was a member of what might be considered the ‘gentry’ of the settlement- in that he owned a few heads of cattle and hired enough men to defend them. The wealth of his family allowed Corgastor to receive an education in both reading and writing, two things that were rare talents among men during the Ascension era. He learned the ancient tales of Everosi heroes and folklore of the Eshan, and on the side dabbled into the literature of such cultures as the Daorhu and Etayen. His tutor and mentor through those early years was a man named Nelsor, whom Corgastor held in the highest regard, calling him ‘Aebergil’ or soul father. The young Corgastor did well in his studies, and even adopted martial activities such as wrestling and stick sparring as additional practice. His father thought well of him, as did his mother and siblings. By age 20, many within Velgishemas held him in an esteemed position.   In the year -13, the peace that characterized Corgastor’s life was shattered. The Etayen, whom the realms of northern Everos held in great disdain, ambushed a gathering of local nobility in a village nearby Velgishemas. This was not outstanding, necessarily, for it was common practice by both Etayen and men to wage such a war of strike and counter-strike. Most of the guests escaped, including Ghedelastor and the other members of Corgastor’s family. However, Nelsor was mortally wounded during the first volleys. His body lay sprawled upon the cold ground while the Etayen swarmed through the village, blood pooling in wide circles around the many wounds. It was impossible to reach him while the enemy stood so close. Corgastor was devastated by the loss of the Aebergil and planned for retaliation.   Revenge manifested itself in the form of an organized uprising against the expanding Etayen state. Corgastor and other chiefs of the Aemar, including figures such as Rhelored, Alyth, and Aragos, united into a loose military confederation. Over the course of a brutal 13-year conflict, Corgastor led this alliance in battle from the northern slopes of the Aeducarr Mountains to the plains of Nossen, and along the river Zomore to the coast of the Wolonorends. Every expedition sent by the Etayen was repulsed, yet the toll was great and bitter. In time, the alliance began to fray, starting with the departure of Lord Rhelored of Grathem and his soldiers, and the position began to weaken.   Corgastor survived to an old age, surpassing all but the youngest of his wartime companions. Throughout those latter-years following the Velgasid Etag, the vaunted victor provided guidance and wisdom to those who petitioned him for it. Old allies visited him often, such as Alyth and Salicad, before they withered and passed away with age. Numerous chiefs among the Aemar desired for Corgastor to title himself as Ghetunbast of Everos or master of Aemarda as ordained by Aebaster, but he never heeded their words. The alliance and agreement brokered with Nassarus of Nathrovas loomed like a dire specter. War and ruin would return to the continent should it be violated.   As Corgastor’s Eshanic essence travelled to Kovûl for final judgement by Ácolitus, Aebaster intervened with immense quantities of raw Eshara. On the night of Corgastor’s death, the Void erupted with brilliant luminescence which arched like great tendrils between the Eshor of Aebaster and the celestial gate. Born from this flare was another, smaller Eshor shrouded in crimson and gold. It broke from the eternal grasp of Ácolitus and settled many Void-leagues away in infantile peace. This was Corgastor the Eshan. Aebaster thus formally passed guardianship of Aemarda to this former mortal, and himself withdrew from Qadal and its perpetual struggles. A dangerous gap in leadership was created by this passing of the proverbial torch, however. Corgastor was Eshan, but he was weak. The world below his new radiance was forced to unknowingly wait for centuries until Eshara was gradually absorbed from the Void. It was not until the 1100s, over a millennium later, that Corgastor built sufficient strength to project himself upon the world and realize Aebaster’s dream of a united Aemarda which he himself had failed to achieve.   Devastation and unprecedented ruin burst upon the world in 3451, when Zarthum, the dread beast forged from Void essence by Ácolitus, was unleashed upon the mortal creations of the Eshan. Hundreds were slain in a matter of moments. This blood toll included both mortals and Eshan, causing an immense release of Eshanic power and simultaneous devastation of worldly power structures. It was such that centuries of careful and conscious nation-building and divine peace were shattered, hurling Qadal into a despondant state of utter confusion. Corgastor was foremost among the Eshan in power and capability to withstand the threat. It was therefore his noble progative to descend from the Void and unto the mortal world to combat Zarthum. The two of them fought in mortal struggle, and Eshanic power was drawn from Corgastor’s body all the while in relation to Kovunkal. Back and forth they struggled, until Zarthum was pierced through with Corgastor’s spear and Corgastor himself was viciously wounded. Zarthum shorted perished with a hideous cry. Corgastor survived only short moments longer, until the power syphoned from his mortal aspect weakened through combat destroyed him. After 3,000 years of existence and 2,000 years of rule, the chosen being of Aebaster faded to death and left his Eshanic realm behind him.
