Syrgus Pyrgós

The tribulations of the father may burden the son many years later, whether in justice or otherwise. Such was the circumstance for Syrgus Pyrgos, son of Lyseros Pyrgos and founder of Eurobia. He was birthed as the third son, divorced from regnal powers and aspirations for succession. His elder brothers Getas and Arquellenis were eager and active participants in Eurobasar political life, stealing away the attention of the reigning Tressonar. Syrgus was not alike, and was a calm, erudite sort. His favored activity was speaking with the strangers from across Qadal who walked through Pyrgoros in curious herds.

Amidst these low childhood years, Syrgus developed a close relationship with his mother, Sypria. They spoke at length about many things, for Sypria was herself a stranger to Eurobia and possessed interesting stories about other regions.

As older and more capable years dawned, Syrgus took to the practice of departing Pyrgoros altogether in pursuit of knowledge and adventure. These forays were a form of reprieve from existence beneath the shadow of a great conqueror. It offered some illusion of true life rather than the life of political scheming and gaming which Getas and Arquellenis embraced.

Syrgus’ disappearance into the open ocean was received with great weight by his kinspeople. Getas and Arquellenis were disappointed, perhaps saddened, but quickly turned their attention to warfare and politics. Other members of the dynasty spent months in mourning, doing what respect was expected for a Tressar of Eurobia. Sypria, the mother whom he was closest, took upon herself to go further still. She endeavored to seek out Syrgus and find where his person or corpse rested. Old as she was, servants and guards escorted her over land and sea, speaking with strange folks who plied the Wolonorends- Gressar, Corgastodmar, Daorhu, and Etayen in unequal measure.

He spent centuries in Voryndal, alongside Zelai and her daughters who yet disguised themselves as Euboa and her servants. This period was a nothing more than a haze, close to a dream. Time meshed into time until months and years became meaningless. The palace upon the sea and its gardens never changed, nor did its enigmatic keepers.

In the year 3468, Syrgus was returned to Othos along with Hirriat, Eryssis, and 10,000 Tarphry warriors. Their purpose was simple- the reunification of Eurobia as once crafted by Lyseros. The means of execution, however, was terribly uncertain. A war followed, the details of which are written elsewhere, but that brought great sorrow to the peaceful heart of Syrgus.

After a year of vicious warfare and fierce diplomacy, Syrgus managed to secure the alliance of the Lornish in Everos and assert himself over the continent. The terms were simple. The Corgastodmar would help Syrgus finish off Vallisia, while Syrgus would not intervene during the coming conquest of Demrazand. With that power base secure, the Vallisians were prompted scattered in betrayal. Those who were willing to surrender were integrated into the army, while others were killed if found resisting. Now the combined Corgastodmar and Eurobasar host marched eastward to eliminate the final Judges of Acolitus and display power. On the march they heard news of the coming Voryndayen threat and met it upon the eastern beaches of Othos in great battle. Combined, Syrgus and Ghet Oselen were victorious, securing immense prestige and honor for themselves.

In these quiet years of basking glory, Syrgus wandered through the ancient halls of Pyrgoros. The letters were dried with age and immensely fragile, near destruction on a single touch. Syrgus examined them closely and found them to be written in the hand of his mother.
