Zarthum

The humiliation sustained by Ácolitus at the hands of his rebellious children was an offense that could not be forgiven. Throughout the eras that followed the First Feud, Ácolitus bid his time to plot revenge- more accurately, about how the rule of his children might be undone. His inability to directly violate the divine mandates rendered rash, direct opposition untenable. For that reason, Ácolitus laid the seeds of a subtler plan. He began to forment the power of the Void, which is the powerful energy upon which all other energies lie. The celestial bodies exist within it, as do the mortal worlds of Qadal and Voryndal. His intention was to create a being of greater power than the Eshan to swiftly purge them and the mortals they created from existence. This harsh judgement was less a matter of vindictive wrath than a conscious and calculated acceptance of Esha’s failure as a realm of Eshanic peace.   This plan was executed in 3451, after the machinations of Ácolitus had come to fruition. The “egg” and “nest” that dwelled in Sutan and Jequa, respectively, were brought together by the Etayen under pretense that it would bring back Atûn. This was not the case, but a clever ruse planned by Ácolitus. The real purpose was to create a conduit by which his creation of the Void might enter the mortal realm and therefore defy the Divine Mandates. It worked flawlessly, and an Elivas named Meliyeus Xin’thelia broke open the “egg” at the behest of Ácolitus himself- this gave birth to Zarthum in mortal form. In the meantime, the celestial form of Zarthum had laid waste to many of the Eshan, including two of the Ezontach, Karthuul, and others while Ácolitus personally slew Aebaster. Now that he was in mortal form, Zarthum used his immense power to lay waste to thousands in mere minutes, blinking between physical realms to slay chief rulers among mortal kingdoms. It was only the intervention of Corgastor, who had survived the first onslaught, and the Keepers of the Lornesse Inquisitorial Company that defeated him. They were fortunate, as the use of Meliyeus as an Eshanic conduit limited the power which Ácolitus could impart upon Zarthum. This offered Corgastor an advantage which was sorely required. They narrowly achieved victory, but at the loss of Corgastor and a number of the Inquisitorial party. The death of Zarthum destroyed any hope on the part of Ácolitus to swiftly destroy the Eshan and remake Qadal anew.
