The eye of Qadal is a self-possessive beast, turned upon itself without consideration for what is beyond. Its people are cruel and ambitious, just like the Alor’eshan who rule over them. This is an ancient truth. For the denizens of that region, the mere half of the world they occupy is sufficient enough to be whole! However, an entire world flourishes beyond Qadal’s sunset. It is an enigmatic place in the annals of Qadayen lore, for no mortal adventurer of that nativity has explored the breadth of that expansive land. Only the remotest edges have been charted, and those records have long moldered to ruin in original form. The Eshan know much regarding Voryndal, but they do not speak of it. Not even Atûn the Youngest divulged the details of the Ebal’eshan to his ambitious spawn. For those reasons, the knowledge of Vorydal presented within the auspices of this tome has been cursory and scarce.
This book’s name, the Sanon Mukalis, is derived from the language of Koluthollas which Ácolitus’ followers created for themselves as a common mode of communication between numerous races.
Historical Memory and Time in Voryndal
Here and thereafter, the wisdom and histories of Voryndal shall be drawn from the personal revelations and experiences of the author.
History in the context of Voryndal is divided into ‘cycles’ which are significant swathes of time as perceived by the Eshan themselves. Counting was only initiated upon the conclusion of the First Feud and beginning of mortality, rather than the birth of Esha. This is because history prior to that date is effectively meaningless to mortal comprehension of time and their own existence, lest they be confused with epochs long before Éshabal, Kovûal, or physical life. Common years as known by mortals are derived by the arbitrary division of these immense cycles for the better comprehension of mortals. Each is divided into a thousand units, as it stands in present times.
