Becoming a Legendary Character | Breakthrough Past Lv 15

As stated in our initial Character Creation rules, once your character reaches Level 15 that character becomes EXP locked and is unable to gain any more experience.
Beyond this point, a character's power increases exponentially, so these heights of prowess are reserved for the most prolific players in Azure Crest. Consider the following Breakthrough options if you want to level past 15.

Brute Force Breakthrough with Event Tokens or Roleplay

Any Player can collect 75 Event Tokens on a Character or use 4000 RP-Coins to Breakthrough without meeting other requirements.
This method is recommended for players who don't feel comfortable asking for quests to be run specifically for themselves and who would prefer to continue playing games without any obligations.
Feel free to review the entirety of the Event/Roleplay Rewards while you are considering this option.

Survive a Staff-Approved Deadly Quest

This is the original method of Breakthrough that has persisted since the inception of The Azure Crest. These Deadly Quests feature 3 or more Deadly+ Encounters and will push your character to their limits and beyond.
Expect at least one character to die during one of these quests.
If you die during a Deadly Breakthrough Quest, your character is still considered to have properly received a Breakthrough, in case they are successfully revived afterwards.
This option is recommended for optimized characters and players who have limited schedules that fall outside of the server's most active playtimes, as these Breakthroughs are resolved over a single session.

Backstory/Rp-heavy Quest that has Significant Impact on the Living World

Instead of fighting a huge baddie or grinding out 75 hours of games, characters can breakthrough with a RP quest. The context of the roleplay and the consequences of what is accomplished need to have far reaching consequences for a region of, or the entire world.
This option is recommended for characters who are built primarily for rp and who may have sacrificed optimization to the point that they do not feel comfortable with combat-centric quests.
Due to the nature of this option, a quest-line of at least 3 games will be required in order to breakthrough.

Retraining Characters

Pathfinder 2e has so many options available to use to build characters that not only it is commonplace, it's rather expected that you will end up reconsidering your character's build path at least once. You can use the following options to correct your character's build:

Retraining Through Downtime

Any character can use some of their Downtime Actions to slowly respec their characters. If you are making a small change to your character sheet and do not need a full rework, then please consider some of the following options:
  • Feats
It takes one week/7 DT Actions to retrain a feat.
  • Skills
It takes one week/7 DT Actions to retrain a skill boost.
  • Class Features
It takes four weeks/28 DT Actions to retrain your class feature.
As a friendly reminder, class features are special mechanical choices that you make during your character's progression, such as a Magus' Hybrid Study or a Fighter's Weapon Mastery.
Essentially, anything in the class that is NOT specifically granted with a feat is a Class Feature.
  • Retraining Multiple Feats
If you need to Retrain several feats at the same time, such as when several feats are chained as prerequisites for each other, you can combine the time required to retrain the feats individually together, and retrain all of them once you have invested however many downtime days over several weeks.
This option is not recommended. It's easier on everyone if you use a Respec Token.

Retraining on a Level-Up

Whenever a Character reaches a Level where they would gain a feat, they can respec one of the other feats in the same category before their new feat is selected. This is to help players who wanted a feat but happened to forget to grab that feat's prerequisite at an earlier level.
For example, most characters can respec a Skill Feat, Class Feat, and Archetype Feat at every even level.
Yes, this also applies to Ancestry Feats.

Respeccing Prior to Level 4
It's not uncommon for someone to make a character and quickly find out that the build they spent a lot of time theorycrafting doesn't work as well as they wanted it to in practice. If your character is level 3 or lower, you may rebuild the character as often as you'd like.
We are aware that this leniency can potentially be abused. Staff have the right to veto a respec, so please ask first before respeccing.

Using a Respec Token

Whenever a Character is made, they get a Respec Token. Respec Tokens are a single-use opportunities to completely rebuild your character after they have reached level 4 and above.
If you have used your token and are still unsatisfied with your build, you can purchase a more Respecs in the Event or Roleplay Shops.
Please keep in mind that, while we allow you to freely rebuild your character with a respec token, you cannot use a respec to change one of your characters into a completely new character.

Event Tokens

are tokens that players receive when they play in a quest that does not grant their character experience. In these situations, the character receives event tokens equal to the amount of experience they would have received.
You can normally receive Event Tokens in the following ways:
  • Denied Experience: If your Characters would not gain⌛or you willingly decline this reward, they receive Event Tokens equal to the⌛s that would have been awarded.
  • Retiring a Character: If a Character is Killed or you willingly retire them, you can add Event Tokens to another one of your characters equal to 5x their level at the time of Retirement. Please note how many tokens your other character is getting as you make a post in your #character-journal
  • Resetting a Character: Sometimes you might want to have a chance to do your character's story over, or maybe you want to join a Server Event.
You can Reset a character to level 3 at any time, forfeitting any wealth and mechanically/lore significant knowledge that they had prior to the reset.
Let us be clear. Playing a Reset character is NOT an excuse to metagame.
It doesn't matter how many dragons you killed as a level 20 Pathfinder, you no longer know their weaknesses.

Lost / Retired Characters

If a character is killed and is unable to be resurrected, or if you do not wish to play them anymore, their experience can potentially contribute to the creation of your next character.
If/when a character is Retired, you can choose one of the following benefits:

Your Next Character Joins the Guild at a Higher Level

Keep note of the Level that your character had achieved before they were retired. Your Next Character can join the Guild at a level up to their Level -2.
Do note that the retirement or death of a character does not allow you to immediately make a new character. Normal Character Creation Cooldowns and Limits apply.
If you make a character at a level above lv 3, you start with more GP according to the following chart:

Gain Event Tokens

Take note of the Level of the character that was retired. You gain Event Token equal to 5 times their level.

Regardless of your choice, please track your character's departure in character journal

Remake Them

If your character was Retired, but not Killed, you can remake them with any character 'slot' you receive in the future at level 3. This works as the "Resetting a Character" option, above, so your character will no longer remember anything mechanically/lore significant if they are Remade this way.
