Downtime Rules

Downtime Rules

Please read the following rules before engaging with our various downtime systems. Accessing this article assumes you have already chosen your Income System for your character.

How many DT Actions do you have?

You have seven [7] DT actions per week. You lose unused actions and gain a new set of 7 actions every Saturday 00:00 UTC.
You can either spend all of them at once or incrementally throughout each week.
You do any bookkeeping for downtime in our downtime journal.

Earning Income (Crafting, Lore, Performance)

Note: You don't need to worry about this section if you've chosen to receive Stipends from the Guild.
You can earn income for your characters by using DT actions. By default, you are meant to use the Crafting, Lore, or Performance skills to do this.
You can use other skills to earn income but it will be more difficult. The DC for each DT action increases by 2 unless a skill feat specifically allows you to earn income with an alternative skill:
  • Diplomacy can be used for Downtime with the earn income feat.
  • Deception can be used for Downtime with the Fabricated Connections feat. It is part of the Dandy Archetype, so you will need to take the dedication feat First.

Task Levels and Rates of Success

Your Task Level (TL) is the level at which your character is attempting to Earn Income. You can Earn Income at any TL up to your Character's Level (CL).
When you attempt to Earn Income, you make a skill check and then compare it to the TL's DC.
  • Critical Success: You Earn Income at 1 level above your TL
  • Success: You Earn Income at your TL
  • Failure: You Earn Income at TL - 3. If TL falls below 1, you earn no money.
  • Critical Failure: You Earn Income at your TL -5. If TL falls below 1, you earn no money.

Universal Income Chart

This chart is a quick reference for Quest Income, Earning Income, and Hiring NPCs. It can also be found in the Discord Server.

Using Bots to do Downtime

Please make sure to relegate all DT checks to our bot channel.
If you have the Income Chart handy, you can do a single DT action with !r 1d20 + [Your Skill's Bonus] and compare the result to the DC for that level of income.
You can also do multiple rolls at the same time: !r [DT Days Spent]{1d20 + [Your Skill's Bonus]
In either case, you can either use a single result for all of the DT days you spend at once, or roll them out individually. It is up to you.

The Special Downtime Macro

Our lovely .bighatlogan has developed a bot command for earning Downtime Easiter. It looks like this:
=dt [TL] [Your Skill's Bonus] [DT Days Spent] [DT Penalty Boolean] [DT Rolling Boolean] [Your Character's Name] [Your Skill's Name] Make sure to put spaces in-between each entry or it may not work. The following is an explanation of what each entry is and how to fill it in:
  • TL
The Task Level at which you are attempting to Earn Income.
  • Your Skill's Bonus
Your Numerical Bonus to the Skill you're using to Earn Income.
  • DT Days Spent
The amount of DT Days you are using at once.
  • DT Penalty Boolean
This is checking whether or not the +2 penalty for using an irregular skill for Earn Income applies.
Enter false if you do not incur this penalty.
Enter true if you do incur this penalty.
  • DT Rolling Boolean
This is checking whether or not you'd like to do your rolls individually for each day or to roll for all days off of a single result.
Enter false if you want a single roll.
Enter true if you want to roll for each day.
  • Your Character's Name
You do know your name, right?
  • Your Skill's Name
    This should be straightforward.

If it all works correctly, you should see something like this:

Purchasing Items

Any character can buy items of levels up to their character's level, including Rare and Unique items. Some items are also banned
Please note that Unique items may have odd abilities or usage requirements that are not applicable outside of the specific setting that they were made for.

Crafting Rules

We recommend learning about the official Pf2e Crafting rules and understanding them before engaging with the rules that we use on the server.
Due to the fact that this server has incredibly inflated gold-gain, we have buffed Crafting for the sake of making it a competitive option vs just "earning income". Please read all rules below if you are interested in crafting.

Formulas

You must have an item's formula before crafting it. You can purchase a formula for an item so long as you are high-enough level to wield the item.
Some item's formulas, such as the Philosopher's Stone may be locked behind a class feat.

Your initial Crafting Check

You pay 50% of the item's cost, as normal. It does not take 4 days to finish crafting an item. You immediately make your crafting check on the item with the following effects:
  • Critical Success:
You instantly finish the item. You do not have to spend any money to finish crafting it.
  • Success:
You finish the item. You can pay 25% of the item's total cost to finish crafting it or continue to work on it with additional downtime days. You reduce the remaining cost to finish the item according to Task Level = your CL +1 for any additional days spent to finish crafting the item.
  • Failure:
You finish the item. You can pay 50% of the item's total cost to finish crafting it or continue to work on it with additional downtime days. You reduce the remaining cost to finish the item according to Task Level = your CL +1 for any additional days spent to finish crafting the item.
  • Critical Failure:
You do not finish the item. You retain 100% of the gold used to attempt crafting the item.

Bulk Crafting

You can craft any number of identical items at once, so long as the total cost of the items does not exceed double the amount of GP you would earn for a successful "Earn Income" at a TL your character's level.
The Task Level is heightened appropriate to the GP you invest before crafting. This rule is overridden by any feat or class ability that is more beneficial.
Example: Ebbo wants to make a bunch of froggy chairs. They cost 475 gold each to buy.
Let's say that Ebbo is a lv 20 Character. This means that they would earn 2500 gold per day. Per the above rule, Ebbo can Bulk Craft up to 5000 gold worth of Froggy Chairs. Since we know their cost, we know that Ebbo can create 10 Froggy Chairs at once. [5000/475 = ~10.5]

Runes and Precious Materials

Characters who invest in Crafting and namely any character who is interested in End-Game Itemization will eventually need to learn about Runes, Precious Material Weapons and Precious Material Armor.
There are a some allowances about these categories of itemization that this server has for the sake of player convenience:
  • Any crafting activities related to attaching Runes to Items or Upgrading Precious Materials does NOT take Downtime Actions
  • If an item does not have a Rune, you can buy a Rune and attach it to the item for free.
  • You can spend additional gold to buy an item that is already made out of the Precious Material that you are looking for.
  • If you are upgrading a Precious material to more expensive version, you can pay the cost difference.
  • If you have crafted a more expensive version of a Rune, you can switch it with its lesser rune on an item for free.
  • If you have crafted a more expensive version of a Precious Material Weapon/Armor you posess, you can move all runes from the lesser item to your new one for free.
  • Transferring a rune from an Item with only 1 rune to a Runestone is free.
  • Transferring a rune from a Runestone to an Item with no runes on it is free.
  • Any of the interactions above that are "free" do not require any crafting proficiency or downtime actions.

Anything related to Runes beyond the above uses the Official Rules.
Here's a small FAQ to help you along:
  • You need to have the Rune's formula to etch it on to an item.
  • Etching a Rune invokes a Tax = 10% of the Rune's value. You can instead buy a Runestone and transfer the Rune from the Runestone.
  • A weapon needs to have Weapon Potency before accepting Weapon Property Runes
This applies similarly to armor, requiring Armor Potency before accepting Armor Property Runes.
  • A weapon made out of precious material needs to be of higher quality to accept a certain level of Runes.
As a rule of thumb: Low-Grade is lv 8 runes and below.
Standard-Grade is lv 15 runes and below.
    High-Grade allows for all runes.
  • The Crafting Check for applying a Rune to an Item is based on the Highest Level Rune present between the Item and the Rune that is being attached.

Hiring NPCs to do Downtime

We understand that it may be hard to engage with other players to get them to craft items for you, sell you their items, or do the prerequisite socializing to get your Weapons/Armor Runed up and ready for your next adventure.
For any Character who cannot craft, but still needs these kinds of things done, you can hire an NPC to take care of these things for you. Please keep these guidelines in mind:
  • Seeking out an NPC to do something for you requires a Downtime Action, regardless of what they are doing.
Despite creating this option, we want to encourage players to engage with the community. I strongly believe the crafting rules above are good opportunities to drive roleplay and forge OOC relationships. I know this caveat is inconvenient. This is by design.
  • Hiring an NPC costs GP appropriate for the level of the task
This cost is clearly listed on the Universal Income Chart below NPC Labor.
  • When an NPC is hired, they always Succeed
Never roll for NPC actions. They are very expensive for what they do, so they always succeed.

Learning Spells/Rituals

Each day of DT spent yields 8 Hours to learn a spell. The Magical Shorthand feat allows you to learn Spells without using DT actions.
Learning Rituals works slightly differently. According to the ritual rules, you need someone else to teach you the ritual, so the base cost of learning a ritual is the cost of hiring an NPC of twice the level of the ritual to teach it to you.
This is expensive on purpose. Your best option is to spend a single DT day with someone else's character so that they can teach you the ritual you want to learn.
Please also note that some rituals are banned.

Using NPCs for Resurrection Rituals

Sometimes a player's character will die, but a DM will be unavailable or a player with a character who can more easily revive people isn't around. For these situations, NPC of the appropriate level can be hired to host the ritual in downtime instead. All NPCs involved must be hired at twice the level of the ritual being cast.
Players must pay the default costs of the Ritual + the cost of Hiring the NPC
In these situations, instead of auto-succeeding, the NPCs must attempt a Flat DC 11 check. The result of that check is the result of the ritual.

This is obviously unreliable, and we recommend that you come to an arrangement with DMs/other players to get characters resurrected, but this option is there for people who are interested.
