Rackham Byrne

First Mate

Rackham Byrne is the First Mate of the merchant ship, The Sharkfin, serving under Captain Grendanna Stormbreaker.
He has served aboard the 'Fin for 15 years, even before it came under the stewardship of Captain Stormbreaker. He was the natural successor to lead the ship, but seems happy to serve under his half-orc friend. There is a strong, unspoken bond between the two, though they rarely speak about their history together.

Appearance and Mannerisms

Rackham is a red-haired, muscular and stocky gnome, whose pale skin is covered in maritime-flavoured tattoos.
He wears his hair in braids, normally tied back into a top-knot, and dresses in light leather sailors clothes, with a jagged sawing dagger at the belt.
The gnome's most distinctive feature is a cleft palate which affects his speech and gives his mouth the impression of a permanent smirk.
Rackham is uncouth and direct, but holds the unwavering respect of his crew. He is by far the most experienced crew member on board the Sharkfin.
Despite his manners, First Mate Byrne has a good heart, and often puts the well-being of the crew before his own.

Notable Achievements

Rackham Byrne has lived amongst sailors his whole life, and knows more about life aboard ship than many captains of the Imperial Navy. Yet, he is taciturn about his past, and avoids the subject whenever it comes up.
