Hypnotic Moth

The hypnotic moth is a rare and dangerous creature. It uses innate illusory magic and moves in bizarre patterns, which affects the minds of other beings.

These moths are so rare that scholars are not sure of their exact nature. Their illusions have led to them being mistaken for anything from bees to hummingbirds. Most humanoids who challenge a hypnotic moth are slain by the animals it controls, but some are hypnotized themselves and never return to their homes. As a result of this unnerving behavior, the hypnotic moth has become the subject of many cautionary folk tales and spooky legends.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Hypnotic moths have plump bodies with long antennae, legs, and a probouscus. Their exact size, and the relative size of their wings, fluctuates quite widely, allowing them to look like other flying creatures.

Ecology and Habitats

Despite their flexible forms, hypnotic moths still primarily consume the nectar of flowers for sustenance, but they are not restricted to living close to these flowers because they are capable of flying over great distances. While they cannot swim, they have often been found in undersea caves that are not completely filled with water. Some believe they use teleportation magic to reach these caves, but the truth is that they find their way through small, secret tunnels and cracks in stone that only very small creatures can fit through.

Behaviour

Hypnotic moths, as their name suggests use their illusions and strange movements to control other creatures, usually other animals, forcing them to protect various territories the moths find valuable. These territories are large, and they never overlap, though the moths curiously never conflict over territory. They are mostly isolated, and they meet only rarely to mate.
