Perfect Ice

Found in the farthest reaches of the world, perfect ice began to form after the Great Cataclysm, and holds magical energy in perfect stillness within itself. Obtaining and using perfect ice is difficult, but can be worth it in the right circumstances.

Material Characteristics

Perfect ice is colorless and nearly completely transparent, being analogous to glass. It is necessarily almost completely pure.

Physical & Chemical Properties

While perfect ice exists at an extremely low temperature, it perfectly maintains its low heat, and doesn't feel cold to touch. It can be transported and stored at any temperature for this reason. However, if the ice is broken in the wrong way, this property abruptly stops, bringing the temperature of the surrounding area down drastically.

Origin & Source

Perfect ice forms only in the farthest reaches of the north and south, inside massive ice sheets. This, along with its fragile magic, makes it extremely difficult to harvest. Once a vein of it is found, it must be carefully extracted along the right lines, or it will lose its magical properties.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Due to its rarity and the extreme difficulty of obtaining it, perfect ice is hardly even known about. Since it has no effect on its surroundings unless it breaks, there is little use for it in everyday life. However, when smashed deliberately as part of a ritual, it can be used to put an object, or even a person, in stasis, "freezing" them in time. The main use for this ritual is preservation, but it is only used on things of high importance.

Perfect ice also, unsurprisingly, contains some elemental ice magic, which can be harnessed to create things such as magical weapons, or used as the central core of an ice golem. Shaping the ice, though, is very difficulty, and may take years of slow work until it is finished.
