Owlbear

A fusion created by the Great Cataclysm, the owlbear is a fierce predator that has both the raw strength of a bear and the senses of an owl. They possess a terrifying screech with a supernatural ability to frighten those who hear it, and which often spells doom for those unlucky enough to wander into the owlbear's territory unprepared. Some have pointed out the owlbear's similarity to griffons, as they both have a bird's head and a large apex predator's body, and similar combinations of energies may have been involved in both their creations.

Anatomy

An owlbear has an owl's head on a bear's body, with feathers instead of fur.

Genetics and Reproduction

Owlbear cubs are born from eggs, which the mother fiercely protects.

Ecology and Habitats

Owlbears live in the habitats of their components. Brown and black owlbears live in forests, while polar owlbears dwell in tundras or on ice caps.

Behaviour

Owlbears behave more like bears than owls, claiming a large swathe of forest and marking it with clawed trees. They are more aggressive than ordinary bears, however, viciously attacking anything they detect in their domain.

Owlbears may have the head of any type of owl. The heads of great horned owls are usually paired with brown bears, barn owls with black bears, and snowy owls with polar bears.

Having the large eyes of an owl, an owlbear has keen night vision, and can see in low light conditions.
