Verdan Features

Physical Description

Verdan are small to medium humanoids with a unique, green-skinned appearance that marks them as descendants of a once-elven lineage touched by the chaos of the Plane of Malice. Their skin varies in shades of green, from light jade to deep emerald, often mottled with darker patches reminiscent of leaves in shadow. Verdan hair is typically black, deep green, or even silver, and their eyes are bright and reflective, ranging in colors from gold to vibrant green. Their features are delicate yet slightly elongated, hinting at their elven ancestry, with ears that taper gracefully to points. Verdan possess an innate adaptability to their environment, a lingering effect of their exposure to the chaotic energies of the Plane of Malice. Most stand between 4 to 5 feet tall, though their height and build can subtly shift over time. Verdan maintain a lithe and nimble build, reflecting their heritage of curiosity and exploration.

Racial Traits

Ability Score Increase: Increase one ability score by 2 and another by 1.   Age: Verdan mature at a similar rate to humans but live slightly longer, reaching up to 200 years. The chaotic energies they encountered in the Plane of Malice have left their aging process unpredictable, with some maturing faster or slower than others.   Alignment: Verdan tend toward neutral alignments, favoring balance and adaptability over rigid moral codes. Their varied experiences with the Plane of Malice make them cautious of extremes and more inclined toward pragmatism and self-discovery.   Size: Verdan are Medium or Small. They stand between 4 to 5 feet tall and have a slender build that reflects their elven ancestry.   Speed: Base walking speed is 30 feet.   Languages: Verdan can speak, read, and write Common, Elvish, and Goblin. The Goblin language reflects their strange connection to their mutated cousins who became goblinoid races.   Racial Features:
  • Darkvision: Accustomed to the twilight and shadows of their hidden enclaves, Verdan have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. They can see in dim light within 60 feet as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. They can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
  • Verdant Will: The Verdan’s experience with the Plane of Malice has strengthened their minds. They have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.
  • Fate-Touched Resilience: Once per long rest, when a Verdan fails a saving throw, they can reroll the die and must use the new roll. This reflects their ability to resist the lingering chaotic forces that once tried to claim them.
  • Elusive Reflex: Once per short rest, when a creature targets a Verdan with an attack, the Verdan can impose disadvantage on the attack roll. This reflects their ability to unpredictably avoid danger, a trait honed by their survival instincts in chaotic environments.
  • Trance: Verdan do not need to sleep. Instead, they enter a meditative state known as a trance for 4 hours a day. While in this state, they are semi-conscious. After resting in this way, they gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
