Overview

Wave Readers are specialized navigators and spiritual guides whose skills are sought throughout the world, especially in the Everspring Isles where the craft originated. Practitioners use a combination of communion with the Divine Glyphs  and advanced navigation skills to plot safe passages through dangerous waters. The most commonly communed Divine Glyphs are The Silent Ocean  and The Infinite Gale.

History

The practice of wave reading began centuries ago in the Everspring Isles. The early inhabitants of these islands, deeply connected to the sea, sought ways to navigate its treacherous waters safely. They built shrines and temples dedicated to the Seven Saints. Seeking their guidance and protection. Over time, wave reading evolved into a sophisticated blend of spiritual communion and practical navigation, becoming a respected and vital skill.

Practices and Techniques

Wave Readers employ a variety of techniques to perform their duties. These include meditation and rituals to commune with the Silent Ocean and the Infinite Gale, seeking insights and blessings for their journeys. They use sacred objects such as conch shells and water mirrors during their rituals. Their navigation skills are enhanced by their deep understanding of ocean currents, weather patterns, and celestial navigation.
Central to the authority of the Temple of Fathoms is its training of Wave Readers. These priests are skilled in communing with the Divine Glyphs to divine safe passage through perilous waters. Ships navigating the six seas often carry at least one Wave Reader aboard, relying on their guidance for a secure journey amidst the unpredictable currents and tempestuous seas.
