Lycanthropy

Lycantropy is a curse, passed down along communal and familial lines. These people struggle with their inner beastial nature and are often but a hair's breadth away from unleashing their bloodlust on the innocent people around them.
The afflicted often call their condition a gift, as they become more used to the positive sides. This of course only applies to those to whom the downsides do not matter as much.

Description

A Lycanthrope is a creature that has contracted the curse of Lycanthropy. This can occur due to three reasons:
  1. Inheritance: being a descendant of a Lycanthrope carries a high likelihood of inheriting the curse as well. It is certain if both parents are lycanthropes.
  2. Blood drinking. If a creature willingly and knowingly partakes in the blood of a Lycanthrope, they become afflicted with the curse.
  3. The Lunar Sacrament. A druidic rite invoking the powers of nature and the moon, this ritual transforms a participant into a lyanthrope.
Once the curse has been inflicted on them, the person will have a second soul effectively shoved into their mind and body: the soul of a beast. This is no ordinary animal spirit, it is a demon beast, a being of bloodlust, savagery and of the hunt. It is fundamentally incompatible with organized society and decency.

Traits

Lycanthropes exhibit a set of powerful abilities:
  1. Bestial Nature: Lycanthropes are stronger, tougher, heal rapidly from any wounds, have enhanced senses and are posessed of bestial savagery.
  2. Bestial Transformation: The Lycanthrope's true form becomes that of a beastlike monster. They can suppress this transformation and assume a human form after some training, but while disguised their senses and abilities are greatly lessened. They can also lose control of their transformation if they lose their temper.
  3. Bloodlust: Lycanthropes have to constantly wrestle with their inner beast and savage nature. They are pushed by their instincts to attack vulnerable people not of their tribe, to eat raw meat and to recklessly kill anybody that opposed them.
  4. Full-Moon curse: During a full moon a lycanthrope will always transform back to their true form. Additionally all but the most strong willed of them will lose control of themselves and succumb to their Bloodlust and enter a killing frenzy where they will attack anything that isnt another lycanthrope.
  5. Silver Weakness: Lycanthropes have a weakness towards weapons of blessed silver. It inhibits their regeneration and is extremely painful to them.
Lycanthropes in their hybrid form look like humanoid, bipedal wolves. This is doubtlessly due to their heritage.
Taboo: Lycanthropy breaks the Taboo.

History & Metaphysics

The curse of Lycanthropy was originally created by the Horned Wolf as a gift to humanity to use against the Jotnar during the War of Tyrants. It is very similar to the curse that creates Wildlings but much improved.
Both wildlings and Lycanyhropes are normal humans with an additional soul or spirit grafted to their own: a Demonic beast.
The main difference between the two is that a lycanthrope is mostly in control of themselves and their own faculties, while wildlings are controlled entirely by the demonic spirit that inhabits their body.
However even while the human host is in control they are influenced by the demonic spirit's instincs, making them more aggressive and predatory.

Appearance

Lycanthropes look like mundane humans while disguised. However their true form is a half-human half-animal monster.
They look like bipedal wolves in their hybrid form.
