Erispoe

King Erispoe mab Nominoe (a.k.a. the Brave)

Erispoe was Duke of Brittany from 851. After the death of his father Nominoë, he led a successful military campaign against the Franks, culminating in his victory at the Battle of Jengland .   He is subsequently referred to as the "King of of the Bretons".   The king fared far worse at politics than at war. The discovery of a secret treaty with the Franks led to a conspiracy of disgruntled nobles, including his own brother Guruant, who feared that Erispoe was surrendering to the enemy all that they had fought so hard for.   He was murdered at church in 857 by the usurper Salomon.
