Landévennec Abbey
The abbey is traditionally held to have been founded around 490 AD by Saint Winwaloe. It became a Benedictine house in the eighth century.
Protected by stout palisade walls, Landévennec Abbey is known as the "Granary of Kernev" for the prodigious (some say miraculous) bounty of its fields and orchards.
Industry & Trade
Kemperle and its neighbours consume the Abbey's reliable output: carefully husbanded grains and dried, oil packed, or salted foodstuffs, preserved in vast storage cellars, vats and squat whitewashed grain-towers.
As the home of the Living Saint, Bishop Gudal, the Abbey has become a pilgrimage sight, receiving donations large and small from the pious.
History
Saint Gwenaël was a Breton saint of the 6th century, the second abbot of Landévennec Abbey, successor in 532 to the founder, Saint Winwaloe.
Winwaloe met Gwenaël in a street in the City of Kemperle when he was eleven, where he witnessed the boy perform miracles.
The feast of Saint Gwenaël is the third day of November.
