Pine Guard
The Pine Guard is the collective name for the city guards of Pinerest. They are charged with law enforcement within the city and its dependent territories.
Structure
The guards are organised in squads of up to 15 and each led by a sergeant. There is usually a maximum of 10 squads per district and they work on shift rotation between street, wall, country and off-duty. The sergeants report to their district commander. The commanders in turn report to the commissioner, who in turn reports to the current Shield of Pinerest.
Culture
The Pine Guard's core values are courage, equality and justice for all. They attempt to apply the law to all in a just and fair manner. Any corruption within their ranks is usually publicly and harshly dealt with.
Assets
The Clock Tower is the headquarter of the Pine Guard. They are also responsible for the city walls and the city gates. Though they do not have to maintain these themselves, they have a duty to report any disrepair so it can be fixed later. The Guard owns a large number of weaponry and arms, all kept in the Clock Tower. By comparison, they own a relatively small number of horses and carts.
History
The Pine Guard was created when Pinerest first obtained the title of a Free City in 853. Then the Guard was more like a poorly-trained militia despite the title. When the Blanchian forces closed in on Pinerest and despite their poor training, the Pine Guard stepped out to meet the Blanchian forces. The then Shield of Pinerest met the Blanchian general to make a request from one man to another: the Guard voted to fight but did not want their family put in danger. Impressed by the Citilian, the general agreed. The Guard and the Blanchian armies met in battle and the Guard were killed to a man. But Pinerest was taken with no further loss of lives, the general and his captains riding in the city to officially take possession of it then ordering their armies to camp outside the city to act as defenses.
