Grummashar

Perhaps surpassed only in sheer size by the ancient Villani capital of Mylon, Grummashar is a testament to what can be achieved when a city is designed by one mind with a limitless supply of manpower. Grummashar was founded by the advancing Kilrog's horde which tore through the Villani Empire. In doing so, the horde brought with it a mass of human slaves who laid the foundation of what would be the great green dragon's capital. Kilrog and his children have ruled the city continuously, it has endured it's share of revolts against the tyranny of the dragon, or wayward orcish clans looking to split or reassert their independence.

Demographics

Orcs, half-Orcs and Hobgoblins make up approximately three quarters of the population. Of the remaining minorities, humans make up the largest segment. Ogres, goblins, and halflings are also present.

Government

Absolute monarchy. In practice Kilrog prefers to sleep and leaves most of his children to the day-to-day activities of running his empire. Buildfath, chief diplomat, and treasurer. Keegan, head of his armies and acting "steward". Grima, leads his special forces and assassins. Veladusa, head of his cult, and a powerful sorceress.

Defences

Several towers and walls surround the settlement, however Grummashar was predominately designed to keep in its forced labour and control the movement of its inhabitants, and not to withstand a siege. Guard towers built throughout the city allow guards and soldiers to keep an eye on activities throughout the city and watch for potential signs of a revolt or rebellion. Cannon batteries are erected at the city's northward and southward facing gates. Scorpions dote the city's numerous guard towers.

Infrastructure

Massive furnaces and masons' workshops

Architecture

The city is atypical of Hobgoblin practicality and Orc simplicity. Driven mercilessly by their draconian law masters the builders have taken direction from the dragons that rule over them - overseeing it's construction over a millennial lifespan. Meticulous attention has been given to structures of prominence, most notably, the 1000 foot Kilrog's tower with bits of adamant infused into it's iron beams and stonework for strengthening.

Geography

The city was founded upon a stony plateau for it's elevation in pairing with the Draconic instinct to remain high. Extraordinary difficult to dig into initially until the creation of forges on site for the rebuilding and forging of tools and an inexhaustible font of manpower. Further to the west lay plains well suited for farming and further on rivers. To the north lay lightly forested areas. To the east lay some green lands beyond which lay the ocean "The Emerald Expanse". To the south lay more plains and rivers before once again hitting the sea.

Natural Resources

Predominately stone, which is the make up of many of the buildings in the area - granite and marble. Deposits of adamant have also been found which tends to work its way into the armies of Kilrog.
