The Pale

From the ashes of Fallen Heaven, man was scattered and in disarray. The Gods were silent and their domain fell. The worshipers of the Old Gods were without guidance. Among man, there were groups that fled into the wild and untamed lands, hoping to disappear amidst the chaos of Heaven's Fall. It was the most hardy and the most damaged that wandered into the Shadowed Forest. It was there, that the Shadowed came into being.

Naming Traditions

The Pale commonly have a "birth" name, which is one they are given upon birth, usually something short and can be said in one or two syllables (such as Gel, Kic, Mino, etc.). When they reach of sixteen years of age, they are usually given a "duty" name, which is usually a shortened form of what they do within the clan (Ran for rangers, kan for chieftains, san for sages, etc).

History

When the The Shadowed Forest became there home and with it, the Shadowed Forest imbued itself into their souls. The Forest Lord, Ith'qual had grown to become concerned with the influx of the humans who sought to bring some kind of order to the beautiful and untamed chaos within his forest. But he saw a tenacity in them as well as the capability of being just as wild and uncontrolled as the most base of beasts. So he came to there camps and villages, making them an offer. To live in harmony with the forest or be hunted like the game they are. Most agreed, not wanting to incur the wrath of a powerful spirit. Others refused, so they were hunted down like animals.   With his blessing, those who accepted and those who survived his hunts were subtly changed to better depict who has allowed them live within the forest. With there hair turning ashen and skin turning paler, the Pale came into being. Outsiders began to believe they were bound to the Forest and rumors always circle across the lands about how the natives preform blood rituals to satisfy their foul patron.
