Greg Deuby

Greg Deuby was a jeubite and the bastard son of the adventurer Jeuby Deuby with his girlfriend Sarah. His father murdered his mother soon after his birth, leading him to become obsessed with vengeance against the entire Deuby family. His quest for vengeance would see him commit many atrocities including the murder of Zana Valenroff and the attempted murder of his half-brother Geuby Deuby. After his death, his sheer hatred and rage would cause him to be remanifested as a hate-revenant. In this form he would commit yet more atrocities before being put down for good.

Early Life

The story of Greg's life begins with his parents. For many years they were in a loving and committed relationship despite the fact that his mother, Sarah, was a vampire and thus considered an abomination by the Church of the Jeubs. Jeuby kept their relationship a secret from his family and the rest of the Jeubites for some time, but eventually he had a spiritual reawakening after a particularly powerful sermon and decided that he would devote his life to the Jeubs by becoming a paladin. The trials of a jeubite paladin required that the candidate destroy an evil creature and, to prove that he truly was dedicated to the cause, Jeuby decided that he would murder his own girlfriend.   This he did, cutting Sarah down as she answered the door to greet him. After committing the deed he left immediately, struggling with a mixture of pride and guilt and not wanting to stay any longer than necessary. Unbeknownst to him, however, was the fact that Sarah had been pregnant with their son and- during the period that he had been avoiding her while preparing for the Paladin trials- had given birth to Greg. The child was alone for some time in his mother's house before being discovered by a wandering beggar and taken to an orphanage, where he was raised.   As a teenager, Greg became curious about his parents' identity and went searching until he was eventually able to piece together the story of what had occurred. Enraged by his father's heinous act, he swore vengeance against him and began training in combat so that he could kill him. The moment he felt that he was ready he set out in search of Jeuby.

The Quest for Vengeance

Greg searched far and wide in search of Jeuby, along the way coming across a small chicken who he took as his pet. Finally, he was able to find his father, who was at the time travelling with the thug Deyethe Gudo. They fought, but Greg was unable to defeat Jeuby and fled the scene with his chicken. He then spent time training and preparing himself for the next duel, which came sooner than he expected as Jeuby and Deyethe had decided to track Greg down and kill him once and for all. Greg utilized his new training and was able to put up a better fight this time, but once again he was defeated by his father and forced to flee, swearing vengeance once more for Jeuby’s crimes. To his great sadness, he was forced to leave his chicken behind this time, only making him more angry and determined to get revenge.   Realizing that a direct fight against his father was hopeless due to the man’s immense strength and skill, Greg began hatching a plot. He followed Jeuby’s movements for months and eventually became aware that he had begun dating Zana Valenroff. When he learned that they were engaged he figured that this would be the perfect opportunity to strike and cause his father the most suffering possible, so he found out the date and time of the wedding and filled the basement with highly explosive manure.   On the day of the wedding, Greg crashed the party and declared his undying hatred of Jeuby before lighting the explosives and blowing the whole place up. Most of the wedding guests were killed in the blast including Jeuby himself, but Zana- pregnant with Jeuby’s second son- managed to escape. Greg pursued her, by this time so twisted with hate that he wanted to eradicate the entire Deuby line including his unborn half-brother, but he was stopped outside Allah Mhigo by the sudden arrival of Zana’s father Lindonrow and his friend Isengriff, who threw Greg over the side of a bridge and left him for dead. Zana then travelled to Haikudo where she raised her son in exile.

Viceroy of Allah Mhigo

Somehow, Greg was able to survive the fall and spent the next fifteen years gathering his strength to continue his vengeance. Deciding he would need more resources if he was to find his disappeared stepmother and half-brother, he joined the armies of the Nateval Empire and used his intelligence and combat skill to rise through the ranks until eventually being declared Viceroy of Allah Mhigo, the effective head of the imperial occupation there. Using his power as Viceroy he sent covert missions out in search of Zana. These efforts finally bore fruit when the elf detective Francis Fransoix was able to track down Zana and her son Geuby Deuby in Haikudo. Nateval soldiers under Greg’s command proceeded to murder Zana, forcing Geuby and Francis (who had not been privy to any plans of murder) to flee.   Greg continued his rule of Allah Mhigo and his attempts to track down Geuby and Francis until his forces were eventually able to apprehend them. He spoke with his half-brother, explaining how awful their father was and that the Deubys in general were horrible, but Geuby refused to listen and instead they fought. Greg defeated his brother (who had trained as a paladin, the exact kind of fighter Greg was best at fighting) and Geuby was only saved by Francis, who was able to distract Greg long enough for them to both flee.   Geuby and Francis would then proceed to incite a rebellion against Greg, leading the monks of Rhalgr’s Reach in a bloody campaign against Nateval Forces and assaulting the walls of Allah Mhigo itself. During the battle, Greg and Geuby would have a rematch. This time, having learned of his mistakes and realized that the way of the paladin was false, Geuby was able to gain the upper hand on his brother and Greg was killed.

Return

Despite being killed by Geuby, this was not the end for Greg. By the time of his death his pain and rage had grown so immense that he was able to do that which no one
had done before- crawl his way back to life through sheer hate. Now a revenant dedicated only to destruction, he formulated a plan to wipe out all life and began manipulating the frog leader Frogespierre to give him the resources to build the massive weapon he would need to accomplish this.   With the help of the naïve frogs Greg was able to construct a massive facility on the moon which housed an energy weapon capable of completely destroying the Earth and everyone on it. Mere moments before he was to activate the weapon, however, he was interrupted by the timely arrival of Marty's Mercs alongside none other than his brother Geuby and a band of assorted heroes who managed to save Earth- although in the struggle the small moon Io and a number of other celestial bodies within the solar system were accidentally destroyed when the weapon activated unexpectedly. Greg was once again killed by his brother, and this time his body was left to float in the vacuum of space for eternity after the moon base exploded and launched it into orbit.
