Magmahawk

Magmahawks are large, rare birds found in the volcanic islands of the Calinan Sea. They are well known for their ability to breathe small gouts of flame and their preference for volcanic habitats, and are considered sacred by the Balaran Templar and the Firedancers of Maganti.

Basic Information

Anatomy

As the name suggests, Magmahawks are larger versions of a hawk. They are considerably larger than most birds of prey by a factor of about three.

Ecology and Habitats

Magmahawks are highly resistant to heat. This means they often prefer to inhabit volcanic islands and in fact seem to prefer to nest near volcanoes and lava flows.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Magmahawks are carnivorous and usually prey on rabbits, goats, monitor lizards and sheep. They usually hunt from the air using their claws to kill and carry prey, although their fire breath can also be used to kill their prey.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Magmahawks are generally solitary creatures, although they do associate in flocks during the mating season, and do form small temporary 'families' until young Magmahawks mature.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Magmahawks are generally found in the volcanic islands of the Calinan Sea, although they can be found on the mainland in the surrounds of Maganti. They also frequent the island of Tenun to the far west of the Calinan Sea.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

As an airborne predator, Magmahawks possess extremely sharp eyesight, able to spot potential prey from the air.
