'She of many legs'

There is a story parents tell the children that misbehave.
Deep down, far beneath the last ray of The Tree can reach, there are many creatures human eyes haven't seen. Down there, there is only one rule: 'The fittest will eat". Down there, there is a nest, one of many the source of many beasts. And within it, there is an enormous mass of spider-like flesh, many legs and eyes, mouths and teeth. Twitching and writhing.
The mother of all spiders. If she can even be called a spider herself.
Where she can't move, she sends her children. They are her eyes, ears, and arms. If they don't bring her enough food, they become her next meal. And of course, she targets all of the misbehaving and rude kids first, passing by the houses of all the nice children.

It seems like almost everyone in The Pit knows this story, even if they can't remember anyone telling it to them before. Maybe that's one of the reasons that even the people who would normally like the spiders tend to have very limited trust towards them.

Additional part of the story

There is another part of this story. a part that says that one of her children ran away from underneath her rule. Said runaway will one day exact their revenge on her and their siblings, but for now, they hide and wait for the right moment to strike,

A certain well-informed man finds any suggestions of relations between the spider queen and him completely hilarious. Though he also starts to lose patience from how many times he has already heard that theory.
