The First Sowing

The First Sowing celebrates the return of life to The Pit.
It indicates the first days when the sown seed will start to grow and bear the fruit.
It is also seen as the confirmation of the end of the Dream.
The First Sowing lasts for ten days, just as the Last Harvest.

History

First Sowing was first celebrated during the 4th year of the Awakening, 2 years after the discovery of Elemental Crops and year after discovery of how the shine of The Tree affects those crops.
Since then it was celebrated every year, gaining popularity with alarming speed.
Now, it is celebrated almost everywhere in the Tree layers of The Pit.   During the 8th year, the celebration had to be moved whole 20 days later, as The Tree wouldn't start to shine. It is unknown why this has happened.

Execution

Days before the celebration farmers prepare their tool for another year of work.
They will also check their fields for stones, as to not damage their hoes on them.
Artisans creating tools try to outdo each other as this is the time their earnings will reach their peak.
When the awaited day comes, the farmers go to their fields to sow them for the first time in this year.
At the same time, in the settlements, stands will be set up.
They will be filled with preserves and jams and wine and cheese. In short, with everything that matured during the Dream.
There are also stands with jewelry and clothes and other adornments people created during the Dream.
Additionally, the cities are decorated with garlands of flowers.   There are dances and games in the city squares and the music fills the air.
In the The City of Middlepoint, The Annual Musical Competition is carried out to find the best musician in The Pit. Couples will often go to watch the first buds showing up on the branches of The Tree.

Participants

Everyone is welcome to participate in the First Sowing.
Usually, the head of the settlement will start the celebration with a speech in which they thank everyone for their hard work.

Observance

5-15 of Budding, but the starting date can be moved later if The Tree hasn't started shining to the fullest yet
