Where everything came to a stop

The sight was incredible.
Hundreds of different things, completely suspended in the air, filled the entire open area. There was rubble, fragments of furniture, torn books, and even humans. All stuck in one place. All stopped in time. It looked as if a giant explosion has been frozen in that place, yet there were no flames.   Now, four men were getting closer to the Anomaly. The three of them needed to get to the higher layer as soon as possible, and this was the closest passage. They hired the guide, a shady man living in the neighborhood, who could lead them safely through the field of stasis.   There were many stories about people who entered this area and themselves got trapped, unable to move, talk, or even think. Completely stopped.
And now, the three of them could see that those stories haven't been exaggerated.
At the border of the zone affected by the anomaly, there were a few people stuck. One of them had their hand stretched towards the anomaly, with a curious look on his face.
Another one looked like she entered the sphere with full sureness, maybe thinking she entered in the right place.
On the other side, one looked like they tried to escape from the inside of anomaly, and froze a few steps from its border.
There were some others, but they all shared one trait. Most of them had some of their belongings, even clothes, stolen. Those who knew how to traverse this place weren't going to leave their treasures behind.   Four men were a few meters from the stasis field. The guide ordered others to stop with a gesture while he got even closer.
He was looking for something, maybe some mark or sign, on the ground. After a few minutes, it looked like he found it. He came back to the group.   "It goes like this. We form a line. The one behind me places his hands on my shoulders, the one behind him does the same. Just place them don't hold their shoulders, or we'll have to cut if you freeze. Also, if that happens to anyone, we leave them behind," his face got even more serious if that was even possible. "Are you really sure about going this way?"   The three of them looked at each other, then at him, and nodded.
The guide sighed, but turned his back to them and signed to follow him.   Following his instructions, they entered the invisible sphere.
The air here was cold and stale. They moved really slow, one step after another. Even now their fear was mixed with wonder.   Almost an hour has passed before their guide stopped them.   "We can take a breath here. If you want, stretch your arms and legs, we're in the bubble that's free from the stasis effect. This is the center of the anomaly. Reaching the other side would take us another hour."   "Would?" the first one behind him asked. That's when the guide turned around and pushed him sideways. As the man flew to the side, his body stopped, suspended in the air.
Before the other two could react, the guide pointed his gun at them.   "Sorry, guys, but that's as far as you'll go. Now, if you could put everything valuable you have on the ground, it would make me really happy. Otherwise, I can take it by myself."   They looked at each other and then agreed to his offer. They threw their weapons on the ground and started to throw other stuff there. The one in the front bent down to reach something in his pockets. But as soon as he did that, he suddenly lunged forward and grabbed the guide's gun. They struggled, each trying to overpower the other.   And then one of them tripped and pulled the other one with him. And everything came to a stop.   The last one of the four stood there, alone in the middle of the place frozen in time. He was as motionless as everything around. He didn't know the way out.
