Grung

Unlike many other beast races, the grung evolved naturally in the swamps of the far-eastern reaches of the empire. They are unusual to see outside of these areas. Most live in isolated communities, many of which have yet to be found or contacted by Imperial forces.   The Caste of grungs has been debated in the Empire for a long time, as religious rules forbid enslaving those not either captured in war or engineered from animals. Unlike kobolds, grungs live sufficiently 'bestial' lifestyles--according to the Empire--that they may have partially rescinded the right to freedom. This is not universally accepted by all provinces. However, many grung are captured on expeditions and still enslaved as novelties to be owned by the upper-caste. Their amphibiousness makes them a choice house-slave in the underwater provinces, but their rarity makes them difficult to find. Other grung who have not been kidnapped in such a manner remain technically of the Steel Caste, but they rarely enter cities or other areas of Celestial civilization.   It is not possible to tell a grung's gender from their outward appearance, and grung themselves have little concept of gender at all outside of spawning season. They resemble bipedal frogs, about the same size as halflings.

Grung Names

The grung language is impossible to pronounce by non-grung, and it has no writing system. When their names are pronounced in common, they usually end up as onomatopoeic imitations. There are no surnames. Examples: Kirrac, Mirrbit, Gricko, Rikoo
