House of Sinners

The House of Sinners describes the loosely-organized cult of Old Man Langdon, a righteous Death that wanders the Material Plane and cuts down those who punish and manipulate the masses. They are found across the galaxy -- from Absalom Station to the far reaches of the Vast -- and have no identifying racial, cultural, or ethnical majority.

Mythology & Lore

The House of Sinners is built around a simple tale, in which a mortal man climbed to power among the stars, and walked a thousand lives in the wake of calamities. False imprisonment, slavery, slaughter, and the many other common crimes known to have occured in the early era of space colonization. But where others turned away -- Langdon opened his eyes wide, pulling in this darkness, and earned the favor of the Lady of Graves.   With this blessing, Langdon could assess the crimes of a man at a glance, and could judge their souls as swiftly as a senior judicator of the Boneyard. And so he began to walk the many civlizations across the stars, searching for sinners, cutting them down as they crossed his path.

Cosmological Views

As the House of Sinners revere Langdon, who they see as a servant of Pharasma, many are also worshippers of the Lady of Graves, and are familiar with cosmology as is perceived by her faithful.

Tenets of Faith

Followers of Old Man Langdon believe that all sentient creatures are sinners, but that one can repent by doing good acts for their fellow man. Gifts without any expectation of a return are a common practice for the House of Sinners, along with similar acts of selfless charity. The believe that activities that weaken communities, especially in the vulnerable reaches of space, are of the highest sin, and often gravitate towards governments with retribution-focused constitutions. In essence, the House of Sinners is as quick to foster life as it is to take it, although the latter is only accepted when the cost of the one threatens the life of the many.   Luckily for the House, Langdon is an efficient communicator, and will answer the prayers of his followers in black-and-white terms. No true follower of the House of Sinners would ever kill another without consulting their patron first, who they consider to be the ultimate judge of what is good and evil.
