Season 3, Episode 8: "Flaming Chariot" Report
General Summary
After a rough landing on Kahlannal, the Dream Team rendezvoused with Zhyffor, who was expecting the party after a glowing recommendation from Hamat. He explained that after the Captain's betrayal, the war with the Servants of Sakalayo was ongoing, although no one had seen Hamat since his broadcast from the Kahlannal Spire, and thus he was assumed captured.
Once they agreed to help, Zhyffor and his fellow Anassanoi escorted the Dream Team and its allies to home base, where Protector Nyralaen issued orders to what was left of the resistance. After a quick assessment of the group's abilities, she made the snap judgement to move quickly, giving the two adventuring groups operations all over the city. In particular, the Dream Team was tasked with recovering a Chariot and two war relics designed by ancient Anassanoi -- the Thunder Crook and the Never Rod.
Eager to put the issue to bed, the two teams set out at once, diving into the heart of the conflict. They took out the Efreeti surrounding the Chariot first, which the enemy forces were attempting to destroy, and sent the vehicle back to home base via a remote protocol. Of note, they defeated a Shaitan officer that seemed to be working with the Efreeti of her own will, and recovered a number of upgrades from her kit.
Then it was time to recover the relics, which were secured in a shrine to the Protectors on the other side of town, and guarded by a Sun Giant officer with a vicious spear. Tired after so many combats back-to-back, the towering warrior gave the group a run for their money, downing Tesin once and almost killing Mist. However, the Dream Team stuck to its tried-and-true tactics, and soon Efreeti began to fall, and the battle was one. Although the relics were trapped behind some kind of ethereal lock, the system seemed to recognize the altruism of Chad, and willingly handed the tools over to him.
Meanwhile, the secondary team split into two mismatched groups -- with Skiv acting alone and Chamas, Golonos, Roranoa, Sensei, and Ragarot taking on two jobs of their own. In particular, the latter group destroyed a magtrain station, cutting the Efreeti off from strategic access to the Anassanoi base, and then cleared out a data center that was being used to scramble allied communications. Skiv took a much longer route, utilizing his advanced stealth capabilities to infiltrate a detention center turned torture chamber, where he recovered Protector Mherren from imprisonment.
With two Protectors and three relics at their disposal, Nyralaen and Mherren decided to lift Zhyffor into their ranks, giving the Dream Team time to refit the various spoils of war into their own gear, and to take a well-deserved rest...
