Hai'a'og, the City of Salt and Sand
The capital city of of the northern most lordship on this side of the Yueve mountains, Hai'a'og is a city the survives off the exchange of salt. As the capital of Morakan, the city drew in the salt exchanges as nobles began to consolidate power in the city. Salt, being a mainstain in the Kai'balian economy, controls the will of the people, so it only makes sense that the lords would bring it to the city.
Such is the influence of salt on the economy, that a few hefty sacks can make a peasant a lord almost over night.
A stunning feature of the city is the River Zilc, a river not of water but sand. Strong winds carry sand from the desert border into a valley that then pours out through the middle of the city. It flows down the hills and slopes, making the eastern territory of the city periodically a delta of rolling sand. Because of this, most of the city's infrastructure is built on the west side of the mountain.
Demographics
The city is ruled by Clan Buo, lead by Chief Buondai. Ethnically Kilithet, the Buo split from the Khans in the 12th century 3E. This event would be considered an important marker for the decline of the great Kilithet Khanate. The majority of the population is descendants of those loyal to the Buo clan.
Being close to the desert, also means that the Khalons, a tribe of desert dwellers, often visit the city. Their nomadic nature has kept them from building permanent housing, but the Khalon leaders have always held sway of the politics in the area.
Muskin make up a small, but not insignificant, portion. Their warrens and burrows throughout the cave system to the north end of the city supply much of the water via an underground river that runs through the mountains.
Industry & Trade
The city acts as a central point of the salt trade between the north and south of the Yueve region.
