The Soldiers of Envale
From the lowly levied peasant, to the might knights of Envale(Continent), soldiers fight and die for their kingdom. These men make up the stories of war told over generations. The talents required to become a soldier vary from nation to nation, and even from war to war. One thing remains constant, the ability to die.
Career
Qualifications
Any man of good health and age can become a soldier, but specialized training can lead to different roles within an army.
Career Progression
For the levied soldier, progression is nonexistent. Once the lord releases them of their levy, they return to their fields. For knights and professional soldiers, one can expect a great deal more progression in the chain of command. The generalty is almost exclusively for men of noble birth.
Payment & Reimbursement
Payment is typically very low for a levied soldier, often just enough to feed his family at home. Knights and other nobles are not typically compensated in salary for their service, but rather in land and titles that generate income. In rare occasion, a lord may parcel out land to commoners for farm purposes, leasing the land at a discount.
Other Benefits
Again, for the levied troop, not much is gained beyond the honor is upholding ones duty to ones lord. For Knights, battle and conflict is everything to them. They live for the chance to prove their valor in battle, to be renowned throughout the land.
Perception
Purpose
The roles and duties of a soldier vary immensely as war is an ever evolving field, but all soldiers are expected to fight and die for the kingdom.
Social Status
The common soldier generally recieves no extra treatment or status. It's the excepted duty of all men to fight for their kingdoms.
