The Fray Myth in The Chronicle | World Anvil

The Fray

A single thread has limitless potential for the beauty it can bring into the world. All it needs is a guiding hand to lead the way.   -traditional Sullan saying

Summary

The Fray is a commonly accepted story of creation within the Metaverse. It describes how before time or space existed, there was but a single string in the universe that contained all of reality. This string, often called The Starting Line, spanned limitless length, stretching across the empty expanse of the universe for an unknowable amount of time. As the universe continued to expand however, The Starting Line eventually snapped under the pressure, separating into nine threads which were flung across the nothingness of space. The moment The Starting Line separated into pieces is known as The Fray.   The nine colored threads became known as Soul Threads, which are said to create life whenever two or more of them are woven together. Each Soul thread is recognized by its color: White, Black, Grey, Red, Green, Blue, Pink, Purple, and Yellow. It is said that when all nine of these threads converged after eons of wandering the universe's expanse, they created the first conscious being, Inpa, The God of Knowledge. Inpa observed how these threads interacted with one another, and eventually learned to manipulate them to create his five children: The Pantheon of the Great Gods, who together created life as we now know it.

Historical Basis

Soul Threads are known to exist within all inhabitants and objects of the Metaverse. Though to the common person they may seem more myth than reality, especially powerful individuals have proven capable of manipulating their own souls, and in even more extreme cases, the souls of others. There are few theories that the majority of people agree on as to the origin and nature of Soul Threads, however The Fray is the most accepted story scientifically, as it also explains the existence of Gods. Given the incredible power a single Soul Thread contains, it makes sense that all of reality originated from them.
