Aegean

"The Crown of Gold"

"My dear children, be sure to thank the Golden Crown for this daily bread. For their benovolance we owe a great debt to, lest we suffer in this lands without their blessings."
-Orphanage Manager at Aegean

Culture

Formally known as a desert wasteland, Aegean is home to a cultural practice native to this land. It is distinct in its widespread usage of alchemic gold for embellishments throughout its everyday life.   Decorated from crudely built settlements that stockade upon each other, to even their own bodies, this alchemic gold is a fundamental part of one's life. It goes so far on occasion to decore to the extent of hazardousness or seemly senseless.   While this false gold has no true intrinsic value outside of The Golden Crown, it is considered equal to one's value in society in this land, only equal to water and true gold.   Social status means everything within this land. Those who attempt to ascend in society, are recognized through one's wealth and acceptance by others of the same social structure. If an individual chooses to ascend the social rank, they in return, sacrifice all that they own or even others. From hosting various banquets to offering generous donations, one cannot rise above their social status without making these amends. This is in stark contrast to the lack of viable resources, as much of the land remains unusable and inhabitable.

People of Aegean

Brim

Citizens who have arrived from another land may find themselves as a Brim. An individual bearing no identification, social status, or anything truly to their name. To survive, often one must peddle their skills and goods to others. After being noticed by others for their deeds, they are rewarded with food fitting for a week of a typical male.  Though, in recent times, this amount has slowly become a morsel in size rather than what it used to be.

Jewels

Jewels are ranked accordingly via their social status in society. The higher ranked one is, the closer they are to the center where the Golden Child resides. To ascend in society requires sacrifice. Many of them reside in the first tier of the Jewels Rankings. (WIP)

Muds

A formless entity that shapes into various creatures with a tint of golden lacing. The Muds inherently do not often speak, and are closely tied to the The Golden Crown. No other organization controls any, nor utilizes them. They are known to be relatively unkillable and unrelenting, but many cannot function any further than the lands of Aegean.

History

Once rampant with sandstorms, dust clouds, and other disasters, Aegean was a small region where the land could offer little protection against the elements. Many of the inhabitants would stockade themselves upon each other's buildings, even to the extent of hazardousness.    This would continue for many generations, till the land could bear no more. Burdened by an abundance of inhabitants, the land could not sufficiently feed the mouths that resided there. Through years of famine, in-fighting, and rule against each other, people would soon discover bread upon the doorsteps of giving people.   Many would peer beyond their windows, of a child running in the midst of the night, offering a slab of bread to a select few households. Eventually, many others would take notice of others doing the very same.    From different ages groups and cultures, people would be seen offering food that appeared in their households, to other friends and families. They would mention of a basket, full of bread and gold that would appear in one's home from time to time. Many would speak of a benevolent child that granted them this boon for their efforts.   It is only through the benevolence of The Golden Crown, do they prosper. As they worship the Golden Child who smiles upon them, bestowing magical sums of bountiful food for all to eat from the Golden Throne.   Nowadays, The Golden Crown provides supplies on a weekly basis in distribution centers for its citizens.

Government

A faux Monarchy. Exclusive power is granted to the Golden Throne and the Golden Child to enact as they wish. Many of its citizens and Jewels are not obligated to follow the rules but will be rewarded if they do so.
