History
Since it's creation the necklace had stayed in Demogorgons possession until he was slain on Traith's prime material plane by a powerful group of adventures. It was not the first time these parties had crossed each other's paths. Demogorgon had slain several of the parties members on other planes across the multiverse as well as he himself had been slain by the party on other planes also. If there were any beings other than the other demon lord of the Abyss that Demogorgon hated this collective of adventures were at the top of his list.
Upon Demogorgons defeat on Traith's prime material plane the adventure released their friends who had been trapped within the Necklace of the Void. Once of the adventures claimed the Necklace as his own. He now wields the power of the Necklace but its power has been reduced from several of the soul being freed from the Necklace.
Significance
This item is the reason that Demogorgon has been banished from Traith's prime material plane. The fact the group of adventures chase him across the planes in order to rescue their own from such a horrible fate is a testament to their loyalty for each other.
