The Artifacts

At the end of the day the tear in reality was opened, four arms of some alien entity reached out and placed four crystalline objects evenly spaced out around it. These objects were able to stabilize a barrier the world's guardians were attempting to create.
The artifacts are crystalline in appearance and studies on them by various sources have determined that they are technology, magical, and containing energies yet unknown.  It had been theorized that they siphon energy off of the tear itself and puts that back into the barrier preventing it from expanding.  Study of this allowed the city to figure out how to do the same, and use the Tear as an energy source as well.
The artifacts are heavily secured in fortified structures, as well as held to the ground by naturally grown roots.  However it has been noted that like the tear itself, the artifacts appear to be locked in position in relation to the Earth's movement, it is unknown if they can be moved at all.
